Resistance 3 outed yet again, possibly set in New York photo

Seriously Sony, why don't you just announce this bloody thing already? Resistance 3 has been "outed" for the millionth time by an online retailer, along with a synopsis that claims players will be defending New York from the Chimera invasion.

"Continue the fight against the Chimera invasion in Resistance 3, as the battle moves to New York City and humanity makes its final stand," claims eStarland.com's sales page.

Of course, this has to remain speculation until Sony gets off its arse and confirms anything, although I really would have to raise an eyebrow at yet another game set in New York, especially with those people screaming "NINE ELEVEN NEVAR FORGET" because Crysis 2 dared to be set in the Big Apple. We probably don't need another "aliens take over New York" game, but what can ya do?

Either way, Sony needs to crap or get off the pot with this. Let's make this official, people!

But Jim....this takes place in an alternate history earth in the 1950's....literally just shy of 50 years before 9/11 even happened. Will anybody REALLY throw up a fuss over that?

Maybe they'll have some kind of reveal/preview for TGS?

@garethxxgod:

The time period is irrelevant. Everyone sees an unprovoked attack on NYC and begins to draw parallels.

That said, I hope Resistance 3 is more like the original Resistance. Resistance 2 was a steaming pile after needlessly removing the weapon wheel, one of the only things that made the first game different.

NYC's is humanity's number one achievement/trophy. So yeah there's going to be TONS of games/movies focusing on the destruction/invasion of it.

Which series is better, Killzone or Resistance?

I could have sworn Resistance 2 was set in New York. The appeal of the first game was that it was an alien invasion set in small towns in England, once they took it to America it kind of lost any charm it had, and I doubt bringing it to the most overused location in gaming is going to make it feel original again.

@Handy

Small towns in England...yeah,London may be quite small. It had some levels that were in small towns but most part of the game were bases, hills or London.
I liked Resistance 2, but the game could be much better, that's for sure.
Hopefully they will get it right this time,

well, that's kinda hard to answer HEL105. You're just gonna get opinionated responses. Killzone 2 has one of the most streamlined matchmaking systems i've ever played in a fps, whether ps3, 360, or pc. You go from round to round without any interruption in gameplay and it even changes game modes. Simply put, it's amazingly fun. As for Resistance, it has a great story and the gameplay is solid. part 1 is a little more charming, but they're both great.

ideally, you shouldn't have to choose between any of them.

I've only played the first Resistance and the PSP game, and while the original was a great launch title, I feel Bend Studios got more creative with the base Insomniac created. Hopefully they can take some cues from the handheld title and inject some personality into the game...

I cannot wait for this. Resistance 2 is my favourite shooter this generation. I must have put 60 plus hours in across all game modes. As long as multiplayer is improved (better match making, more creative map design, and maybe more customisable weapon loadouts) along with co-op having a more cinematic tangible story, then it'll be an instant purchase for me.

I actually also think the move to New York is a good thing. The best levels in R2 were when you fought in the cityscape. The countryside settings across both games always felt a bit boring and monotonous to me. At least it will add a bit more variety anyway.

The guy from Resistance Retribution should be the main character of Resistance 3.
