Insomniac has parted its legs and given us a glistening glimpse of Resistance 3's multiplayer mode.
The big change is that R3 will actually reduce the amount of players in a match, going from 40+ mayhem to more reserved 16-player matches. The change was made because apparently the game is just more fun on a smaller scale. There will be Human vs. Chimera deathmatch and objective-based modes on maps set around the world.
Resistance 3 will offer a "deep" customization experience, with progression paths that suit a variety of play styles. Whether you're into heavy assault or support strategies, there are lots of skills for you to spend experience points on. Provided examples of abilities are the Bubble Shield, Ammo Beacon (give ammo to teammates), Radar Beacon (enhance your team’s radar), Doppelganger (projects an image of you nearby to distract enemies) and Dash (an explosive burst of speed to evade enemy attacks).
Players also get to pick a "personal attribute" and a "combat attribute." These include the power to have leapers bust out from one's corpse, access extra weapons, and reloading or firing at a faster rate.
A beta is due out later this year. Hopefully more news will be had on that soon.
All I need now is to be told that PlayStation Move will not be included -- or at least restricted to its own server -- and I am 95% sold on this bitch.

This makes me very disappointed. The huge 40/60 player battles were extremely intense and epic in Resistance 1 & 2. The scale coupled with the shifting battlefield often meant one team would hold an area like the construction site in Chicago or the logging mill with the other team assaulting it. Desperately trying to hold the line with all sorts of crap flying at you on the front lines and others trying to stealth their way around. The biggest problem with this though the game's multiplayer did not look as visually impressive as the single player but I could not give two wooden shits about graphics if the gameplay was that fantastic.
There is nothing inherently wrong with locked small player counts but my issue with it is it always dictates the scale of engagements in the game. In a big player count game you can have small maps with small counts or big maps with big player counts, you had options in other words.
Guess this was bound to happen since even in Crysis 2 the multiplayer has been chewed down from the original's epic 32 player Power Struggle to 12. I suppose it really is up to Battlefield 3 now to get multiplayer games back to 2001's scale rather than 1996's that nearly every other game is doing.
Glorious.
@Elsa I heard R2 sytle co-op was out in favor of co-op in the campaign.
Just like the previous two Resistance games, I'll wait until I can pick this one up used for $20.
I completely disagree, I don't see how its a problem that dual shock 3 players play with Move players.
Besides, I don't think there are enough Move players to create a server for. Have fun finding a match!
I love how you can just switch between ds3 and move at any time, very great!

The co-op is not some Epic orgy like it was in R2, I'm pretty sure its gonna be like 2-4 players online that can play campaign. I'm happy either way!
The multiplayer sounds AWESOME, and the graphics are incredible! I would like them to make it maybe 20 players though, 16 seems a bit low; then again, I haven't played it yet so I can't say!
The overwhelming amount of enemies in R2 co-op was stupid. MP was horrid.
This kind of MP is what Resistance needed. It looks like its a lot more "solid".
I always wanted it to be more like CoD/Halo/Killzone/Crysis.
It was an arena style shooter up until now.
(These are just my opinions)
definitely better than KZ3
sorry jim :P
