Nevermind my notes: Hit the 32 second trailer first
Update: Capcom has finally released a stateside press release as noted below.
Not a great teaser, but we'll take what we can get. Capcom has launched the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition's control scheme was revealed today, using the expected Wiimote-nunchuck combination and not the suspected Wii Blaster controller which popped for sale on May 1st at GameStop. Anything can happen between now and the time that it hits American shelves, so who knows what they have in store.
A variety of better-resolution screenshots from the Famitsu scans Nick posted earlier, hilarious photos of bubbly Europeans reminiscent of scenes from Natural Born Killers, and a high res logo follow in the gallery follow below. Bonus pic:

CAPCOM® UNLEASHES A ZOMBIE HORDE ON THE WII™ with resident evil® 4 Wii™ edition and resident evil®: The umbrella chronicles
Flailing Zombies Meet Motion-Sensitive Controls in Two New Resident Evil® Games
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- April 6, 2007 -- Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that the incredibly successful Resident Evil® series, with over 30 million games sold worldwide, is coming to the Wii™ video game system from Nintendo with two new titles. This summer, Capcom will release Resident Evil® 4 Wii Edition, a new version of the award-winning game that incorporates the control functionality of the Wii Remote™. Capcom will be bringing a new game, Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles, to the Wii at a later date.
“Resident Evil has become one of the premier franchises in the games industry, with more than 30 million RE games sold around the world,” said Jack Symon, director, product marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “The innovative controller functionality of the Wii will allow us to design innovative, original game play never before seen in a Resident Evil game. With RE4, we’re challenging the Wii hardware to meet Resident Evil, while in The Umbrella Chronicles, we’re adapting Resident Evil to the innovations of the Wii.”
Resident Evil® 4 is one of the highest rated games on Game Rankings.com and Metacritic.com, garnering dozens of awards and nominations for its amazing game play and incredible re-invention of the “survival-horror” genre. This celebrated game now comes to the Wii with added Wii Remote and Nunchuck™ support, allowing players to immerse themselves in the game as never before. With RE4 Wii Edition, Capcom is offering new and more immersive sense of control to players, while keeping all of the game’s incredible game systems intact. As Leon Kennedy, players will explore a town overrun by cultists, mutants and mind-controlled villagers, using the Wii Remote to aim, fire, slash and avoid oncoming adversaries with intuitive motions and movements. RE4 Wii Edition will also contain the additional content included in the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system version of the game.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a brand new game in the Resident Evil franchise, with familiar locales from the entire series, created specifically for the unique characteristics of the Wii hardware. This action/shooter hybrid reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as new never-before-seen locations, such as Umbrella’s stronghold. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles combines first-person, light-gun style combat with interactive pathways, multiple weapons and new enemies to create an entirely new Resident Evil experience that could only be delivered on the Wii.
At least we know that Umbrella Chronicles is going to look sweet, just like RE:REmake, RE0, and RE4!
- The game will be fully polygonal, no pre-rendered backgrounds
- there will be quick-time events, better known as context sensitive events much like the ones in RE4. Camera will zoom out to show the character performing these actions.
- A question posed to the game’s producer…
Q: don’t you think to have betrayed the series making a shooter?
A: there is a part of hard core gamers that don’t like it for sure, but a lot of more gamere were tired of the same formula and we are doing something new to please all the people that have found the previous RE quite repetitive.
Did you play Killer 7? Since Capcom did that, I am sure the Umbrella Chronicles will be simliar from what they described. So Killer 7 with RE4 graphics and zombies!
You know, I talk a lot of shit about rail shooters -- I don't really find that the gameplay gives me enough freedom or enough variety to hold my interest for lonh... most of the time. I hated, hated, HATED Killer 7 with a passion, but only partially because it was on da' railz.
That said, UC is looking sharp and I really can't resist its lure. So bring it on.
And, when I was talking about the Railshooter I was referring to Umbrella Chronicles and not RE4 if anyone thought otherwise.
I guess it really depends on the implementation of the Wii controls. Personally, I don't see any benefit of having the Wiimote and waving it around as an improvement to the good controls in RE4. Game companies need to focus on creating new ways of interacting and controlling games rather than just sloppily adding on swinging (ala Zelda:TP). IMHO.
i mean LOL
"PEW PEW PEW!"
buy = by....
I blame it on GH2 and epilipsy.
See the advertisements say so...
When is RE:UC due out?
Drowning in a vat of Cadburry Egg filling, would be bad I think.
As for RE:UC, I imagine it being something like this
"Hang in there, Leon! I'm gonna rub the wiimote and the nunchuck together to make a defibrillator!"
*Burlap-Sack-For-A-Face rapes your neck with a chainsaw*
I just wet myself laughing.
*You enter a small toolshed. A small herb grows in a pot on a shelf. There's a typewriter on a nearby desk.
>eat herb
*You eat the herb. Nothing happens.
>use typewriter
*The keys are sticking. You feel a bit dizzy.
>svae game
>save gme
>save ggame
>fix typewriter
*You try to fix the typewriter and fail miserably. A dirty-looking chap wielding a very large axe enters behind you. Your vision is blurry. Colors merge. He looks like a clown. Yes, he's definitely a clown. The clowns are watching you. BURN THEM. BURN THEM ALL.
>burn them all
*YOU CAN TASTE THE SUN.
>kill chap with axe
*The chap cleaves your skull in two with a stroke so flawless that Leonidas himself would weep at the sight of it. Game over. Play again?
>fuck you
*Temper, temper.
killer 7 is made by grasshopper capcom just owns the rights and stuff
Mxyzptlk,
its highly unlikely that it will get an remake becasue of the bad sales on the gamecube and ps2 + capcom is all about money now...... ( see the fireing of clover or the more movie license deals article )
The Prototype of the Wii Zapper/Blaster is NOT a holder. If you look closely it is something new. There is no cord coming from the bottom of "nunchuck" in pics.
Plus look at it, only ONE button on the "nunchuck" part. Nunchucks have TWO buttons.
It is a NEW and separate attachment for the Wiimote.
As for Umbrella Chronicles, well, I'd give that a rental, too. I'm leery about the whole 'on rails' thing.
