Resident Evil re-remake coming to Wii ... seriously photo

Sometimes a publisher must sit down and think to itself: "Okay, we've remade this game roughly 10,000 times. This is stupid." Capcom has no such self-awareness, however, and has announced that yet another Resident Evil remake is on the way. This time it's a Wii version of the GameCube version of the PlayStation version of the first Resident Evil.

This remake of a remake will of course feature obligatory waggle controls, but may also be played with the GameCube controller if you feel like negating the entire point of the thing. This joke is due out on December 25 in Japan.

I love Capcom a lot, but this has reached the point of self-parody. When you're remaking remakes, especially ones that were on the previous console just a few years prior, then you're taking the absolute piss out of your customers, your platform and yourself. This re-remake will join Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 -- two other Resi games reissued on the Wii.

What a farce.

I'm fine with the releases and remakes, just remake RE2 and 3.

I didnt see that one coming...

I must admit, its nice that they make games available for people who missed out on the earlier generations. God knows how many games I missed out on that I want to experience.

I don't dog all remakes, I'd love a Final Fantasy VII remake.
But yeah Jim, this is just another way to whore out the game.

You could just use the Wii's GCN mode and play the gamecube one :\
Why does it have to be the Gamecube version? I managed to complete the PSX (well, DS) version just fine, but the Gamecube one added more rooms, harder puzzles, and those damn red hard-as-nails zombies! :'(

Every remake has made me giggle. Though - incredibly broke.

The DS version had that great mini-game, where you give Richard CPR after he's attacked by the snake, and if you blow too hard - his chest explodes in gore.

@Jim,

So Capcom is just like that someone everybody knows who doesn't open presents but instead saves them and gives them to distant relatives the next year? Fantastic.

I recently completed the Gamecube one, having never played any version before. It's not a Resi 4 style game, so I don't really see how Wii aiming is going to help. I just wish Capcom would announce remakes of 2 and 3 before I get round to playing the old versions, because I'm a total graphics whore.

I'm glad that this is coming out in Japan. Hopefully that means that those of us in the U.S. will not be forced to keep ourselves from laughing out loud when we see it on the shelf.

But keep in mind that this is the same Capcom who decided that it would be a good thing to close Clover Studios. So, does this stupidity really come as a surprise?

On the positive side, it will have widescreen support, 480p mode, and be released on a single disc, right?

Where's my RE2+RE3 remake with 3rd person view/RE4 engine?

Seriously, I want to give Capcom my money but they don't want to reach out and grab!

Resi 4 on Wii was a good remake, even though they didn't do anything on the gfx side the added wiimote functionality for the shooting etc worked really well. But porting the other titles without adding anything except for some stupid waggle fetures nobody wants that will do nothing to make the game better is seriously wrong. At least they aren't releasing these remakes in Europe and America.
By the way, it's funny how the GC version was already an ugly port of the much older playstation version and they're throw this psx title into the seventh generation of videogames.

I thought that you were crazy, but mobygames proved me wrong. Apparently, there IS a Resident Evil Zero out for the Wii in Japan. That is plum bonkers. Why isn't it over here? I never played that one.

First Resident Evil I ever played? Resident Evil: Code Veronica

First Resident Evil I ever finished? Resident Evil One: GameCube

Capcom, how I love thee. This remake is taking the piss a bit though. Come on, don't treat us like fools. I love the RE series a lot, but not that much.

Where's RE2 and RE3 for DS, or a totally new Wii RE game (no that UC light gun cheese).

If Sega can push a brand new House of the Dead game on Wii, what's your excuse not to do the same with RE, Capcom? Too busy with RE5 you say.

Another problem I think is that Capcom are not really doing games to Wii spec graphics wise (ie a Wii specific engine...). We know Wii can do better but few games ever show anything beyond polished GC graphics.

Whats the point? The Wii runs gamecube games anyway, why not make it on the 360 and PS3 and give it a real overhaul on everything? Pretty worthless imo.

So yeah, another Wii RE4 style Resident Evil would be nice, I don't even care which one. But anyone that buys this is only gonna encourage them... and people WILL buy this.

ahh. they're a business. just trying to make more money. i wish people won't buy this, but they will. which does nothing but promote re-re-re-re-releases of the same game.

thus being said though, i think the gamecube remake of RE was bloody brilliant. i just wish they'd remake some other game sometime.

There's a possibility that Capcom want to do this, because they have the intention of remaking RE2 and RE3. This way, the whole series up to 4 will be on Wii.

Wii really still needs its own dedicated RE game in the RE mold though. Maybe they also want to do that too.

It's been said before... Why not just remake a game that hasn't been remade? Resi 2 + 3, or Dino Crisis?

Or how about... a New Game all together? It doesn't have to be a new IP, no one expects the company that brought us 15+ Street Fighter games on arcade alone, to make anything remotely original.

Considering these GC -> Wii RE releases are likely to stay in Japan, and that these are being sold because of sales, why blame Capcom? Blame consumers. Then again, how is the used games scene in Japan?

How about Capcom Remakes RE4, instead. They can replace all the Los Plagus jokes with Zombies, add better camera angles, preferable creepier one's. You know make it survival horror. And while their at it cover Ashley's mouth with Duct tape so we don't have to listen to her talk during the game. Then when their done with that they can do the Same think for Five. Maybe even put some AI that works into Sheva
