Sometimes a publisher must sit down and think to itself: "Okay, we've remade this game roughly 10,000 times. This is stupid." Capcom has no such self-awareness, however, and has announced that yet another Resident Evil remake is on the way. This time it's a Wii version of the GameCube version of the PlayStation version of the first Resident Evil.
This remake of a remake will of course feature obligatory waggle controls, but may also be played with the GameCube controller if you feel like negating the entire point of the thing. This joke is due out on December 25 in Japan.
I love Capcom a lot, but this has reached the point of self-parody. When you're remaking remakes, especially ones that were on the previous console just a few years prior, then you're taking the absolute piss out of your customers, your platform and yourself. This re-remake will join Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 -- two other Resi games reissued on the Wii.
What a farce.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I must admit, its nice that they make games available for people who missed out on the earlier generations. God knows how many games I missed out on that I want to experience.
But yeah Jim, this is just another way to whore out the game.
What happened to Christmas over there? .
This is Capcom's Christmas present to everyone.
Why does it have to be the Gamecube version? I managed to complete the PSX (well, DS) version just fine, but the Gamecube one added more rooms, harder puzzles, and those damn red hard-as-nails zombies! :'(
The DS version had that great mini-game, where you give Richard CPR after he's attacked by the snake, and if you blow too hard - his chest explodes in gore.
@Jim,
So Capcom is just like that someone everybody knows who doesn't open presents but instead saves them and gives them to distant relatives the next year? Fantastic.
But keep in mind that this is the same Capcom who decided that it would be a good thing to close Clover Studios. So, does this stupidity really come as a surprise?
Seriously, I want to give Capcom my money but they don't want to reach out and grab!
By the way, it's funny how the GC version was already an ugly port of the much older playstation version and they're throw this psx title into the seventh generation of videogames.
First Resident Evil I ever played? Resident Evil: Code Veronica
First Resident Evil I ever finished? Resident Evil One: GameCube
Where's RE2 and RE3 for DS, or a totally new Wii RE game (no that UC light gun cheese).
If Sega can push a brand new House of the Dead game on Wii, what's your excuse not to do the same with RE, Capcom? Too busy with RE5 you say.
Another problem I think is that Capcom are not really doing games to Wii spec graphics wise (ie a Wii specific engine...). We know Wii can do better but few games ever show anything beyond polished GC graphics.
And Resident Evil on GC was an ugly port? That game was beautiful.
So yeah, another Wii RE4 style Resident Evil would be nice, I don't even care which one. But anyone that buys this is only gonna encourage them... and people WILL buy this.
Because 2 and 3 are the bastard children of the series apparently.
Is CAPCOM really that busy to not deliver some RE5 Wii Edition info? C'mon guys, I love you so much but I want something new.
thus being said though, i think the gamecube remake of RE was bloody brilliant. i just wish they'd remake some other game sometime.
Wii really still needs its own dedicated RE game in the RE mold though. Maybe they also want to do that too.
The GameCube remake was an absolute masterpiece. If this is the same thing, just with waggle, then forget it. If it's got an entire new part of the mansion again, then maybe.
i dont care if they dont port RE5 to the wii - but just put the effort into a new game using the RE4 engine.
Or how about... a New Game all together? It doesn't have to be a new IP, no one expects the company that brought us 15+ Street Fighter games on arcade alone, to make anything remotely original.
