Resident Evil's "The Mercenaries" mode is now even more handheld as Capcom has launched Resident Evil Mercenaries VS. on the Apple app store. It's $2.99 for a promotional period, so if you want to check it out you should probably get on it sooner rather than later.
The fellows over at Touch Arcade don't seem too impressed by it though, noting that it looks like crap and that the multiplayer gameplay doesn't really suit the Resident Evil style of play. I guess it will have to depend on how much you like Mercenaries, and if you want to play it as a 2 vs. 2 mode online.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Have to say it's just OK, this is one of those games where the touch controls aren't suited very well to it, and just make playing it harder than it needs to be.
Also with the lack of enemies running around in the versus mode, most fights are Player VS Player which with the controls and everything is no fun.
Anyone who has play a Lot of versus on 360 and PS3 can tell you you never really bother killing the other team straight. It's best to go for your enemy kills and combos, and then to only pick off the other players when they are being attacked or low on health. which with the lack of enemies that appear you can't really do.
This is a PASS to everyone expect the Die Hard fans of RE that have to get every RE game regardless
@ LK404 - Street Fighter IV's virtual pad actually works like a charm. But that's on a 2D fighter, so you've got a point there.
The one I linked at least has pretty nice tilt-to-turn controls on top of virtual buttons.
Do you hear my laughing?
Also. I will pass on this, after the World of Goo price reduction I am a touch (get it) busy in the app games department.
Butons ar for idyots I lik 2 have my hands cramped on a tuch screen that obstructs the view of the game. it makes game the game mor fun. aslo this game only cahst 3 bucks which means i'm getting more than 13 times the valu of a 3DS game. only rich people like bill gates can aford a 3ds gaym although i spen 600$ on iphone i get gayms cheaper so it beter valu
Say whatever you want, but the fact that "touch" games are beating out the PSP by three times, and steadily creeping up on the DS is just a fact.
So I'd say a LOT of people like those "touch gaming platitudes", and Destructoid can write about them just fine: you can't really fault them for writing about what's popular. If you want to shake your fist at more popular mediums, that's your prerogative, but just know - they're not universally hated.
Myself, and a ton of other people, who have been playing button only games for over 20 years, can play just fine.
::shrugs::
There are some cases, like any SEGA emulated iOS game, where it plays poorly out of lazy design, but then there are well designed button based games like League of Evil where they work just great.
If you can, try League of Evil off someone else's device. Additionally, you could say any system's poorly designed game is difficult to play.
