That's right, Destructoid readers, we've got the Resident Evil: Extinction teaser trailer that was shown with Ghost Rider this past weekend. Just like the other Resident Evil trailers, they do a great job of luring you into a false sense of security by presenting it as though it's a commercial for a product. This, of course, is no indication how the film is going to be. Like Alex and I said, the film was popular, but not necessarily good. Expect the film to hit theaters September 21st.

Ugh. Sept. 21st is MY BIRTHDAY. Why does crap have to come out then? That trailer looks extremely underwhelming and will probably fall into oblivion along with the rest of the movies, right beside Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

Oh well.

I saw the other two films (first one was ok, second one was mediocre at best), so I'll pro'lly go see this one, too.

I'm a horrible Resident Evil fanboy. Don't look at me!

I see hope just because it does not look as fake as the 2nd one did the whole nemmises fight look fake as hell. I can tell they look at the way the cam moves in RE4. With like the flip in the laser hallway and knife fight in RE4.

If there is a game made of this movie will the universe somehow collapse on itself? What about a book adaptation of the game-movie game? sort of a choose-your-own-adventure?

Funny, I don't remember there being a desert in any of the RE games. Must have missed that part with all the awesome directing of the first two films. *sighs*

I think the guy making the film is trying to get the feel of the game and make his on story. I mean look at RE1 the game you were almost a jill sandwitch. Damit berry.

Oh right, I just remembered that the Resident Evil 5 trailer was in a desert town. It still doesn't change the fact that zombies in the desert are called mummies.

Dude , movies are BASED on games , not game cinematics...
there wasnt a desert on re games...so? theres no albert wesker on the movies either , its just an adaptation of story , just like any other game/comic movie.

at least it wont suck as much as that dear or alive...thing..i dont want to call that a movie.

Ahhhh! What. The. Fuck. Sony? What is so god damn hard about making Resident Evil about.. oh, I don't know, Resident Evil? Make these things using CG and stop trying to make it 'realistic'.Fuck the mainstream audiences, make these films for the fans that play the fucking games, then maybe you'll get more people excited about seeing it. Shit, I'm sure a few RE fans could make a better movie using Maya and Final Cut Pro. Jesus Christ.

I gotta say, I kinda like the idea of a setting that was different from the games. I mean, RE4 did a good job in taking the location somewhere new, and it really worked. Besides, if you look at the previous movies in simple terms, they didn't go horribly off topic. The zombies were there, the suspense was there, and the action was there. I still can't understand why people profess their dislike for these movies all the time. RE1 was good for how quickly they went, RE2 was ok, and tried harder to follow the game, and people are already saying this is gonna suck after the teaser. At least wait until more footage comes out to judge.

People who go through an embalming process involving removing organs and lots of gauze are mummies. Dead people walking around in street clothes and specifically trying to eat others are zombies. Get your heads straight.

I like the Resident Evil movies.

Probably because I have a huge boner for Milla Jovovich, and as a bonus Ali Larter is in this one.

Prolly won't see it in the theaters but will buy the DVD so I can FAP to it. :)

@ UnknownHeadFeelings

But if you're going to have dead corpses shuffling around in the streets, attacking people in the desert, why not just make them mummies?

For that matter, why not just make this some other movie not related to Resident Evil? It's barely related to Resident Evil to begin with. I promise, watching this premise in a movie not titled Resident Evil could not make it any worse, and would save people from complaining about three poorly done films instead of two.

And the reason why people think it's going to suck? Because it's not about Resident Evil anymore, it's about some girl with psychic powers in a Mad Max desert that's ravaged by an organization that happens to be in the games as well.

(I reserve the rights to ignore what I just said if the plot of RE5 involves everything but the psychic girl.)

I can tell you what is wrong with these films in two words:

Paul. Anderson.

The man can direct, and direct very, very well. He just can't write to save his life. To quote the Simpsons:

"I could puke in a fountain pen and mail it to the monkey house and get a better script!"

He really should just stick to directing. He's much better at that.

wishful thinkers saw the first one, idiots saw the second one and f*cking morons who still wonder why videogame-based movies never do justice to their source will see the third.

it would be nice for us real RE fans if capcom would at least make some sort of an apology for allowing one of gaming's most respected franchises to be so disgraced but they're probably too embarrassed at this point.

@ Necros

I really don't think mummies in what looks like the ruins of a major American city would make any more sense than Uwe Boll doing anything correctly. And I can't really agree with the idea that it's not RE anymore. I mean, RE4 didn't have anything to do with zombies in the sense of the previous games, nor the Umbrella Corp, as was customary of all the games as the key villain (I might be wrong. I haven't played though RE4 in about 2 years.). Granted, your point about not making this movie a Resident Evil movie is a good one, but I would rather see it before I write it off completely.

@ carg0
"F*cking morons" are the people who spend more than a buck 50 to see a video game movie that was doomed before the script was finished (i.e. House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, Postal, Dungeon Siege). And besides, you can't fault Capcom if you don't like the movies. I am happier that someone tried and fell short to make a movie based on a game franchise than to just sell the rights to a hack or not try at all. At least the movies reached enough RE fans that weren't looking for an Oscar winning film, just something somewhat entertaining.
