Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles trailer photo

With the announcement today of the new Resident Evil titles coming to Wii, it was fairly safe to say that we'd have our hands on some form of video in short order. And now we do.

If you venture past the jump, we have the Japanese trailer for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles which is, if you'll recall from earlier this morning, the follow-up to 2008's on-rails shooter, The Umbrella Chronicles. It looks like more of the same, which wasn't bad (but not great; I personally found it rather tedious after a bit).

I'll freely admit that I'm more interested in playing the Wii-makes of the original Resident Evil and RE: Zero but this could still be good for a rental to get my shooter fix. What do you think?

I think that this game is looking extremely badass. I really loved RE: UC so this is a definite buy for me.

I really hope that they aren't just bringing the Japanese Wii port of Resident Evil 0 to America. The only thing they added to that was the ability to use the Remote and Chuck instead of a standard controller. No motion controls at all. No point and shoot gameplay. It was even still 16:9. A pointless port if ever there was one, when you can get a used Gamecube copy for like 10 bucks.

If they're just doing that with REmake and RE0 I'm going to yell loudly. Not in a good way.

I find it funny that back then Chris and Jill were fighting for their lives against small packs of slow mundane zombies with nothing but pistols. But now Chris is going rambo on thousands of zombies with machine guns.

They completely ruined the chance to do something truly amazing. I like on-rail shooters as much as the next person, but I don't want them doing crap like this. A remake of RE2 on the Wii with RE4 gameplay would have been amazing, this is just bullshit. RE2 wasn't in Umbrella Chronicles, and this makes it feel like they're simply selling us the rest of that game. If Umbrella Chronicles were on the 360 or PS3, I have a feeling this would have simply been DLC.

Anyway, since they're already going through with this, they had better improve upon the horrid way co-op was handled in Umbrella Chronicles. I hate sharing a life bar, it's garbage. I don't want to die because my partner is shit at the game. Also, Quick Time Events, get rid of them. It's an on-rails shooter, it has no place in the game in my opinion and only served to agitate people and break the flow of the game in Umbrella Chronicles.

I got bored of RE:UC very quickly, it wasn't fun, I'd rather play the normal games.

I said it was 16:9. I am fail. I meant the RE0 Japanese port was 4:3.

I liked the fact that some of it is now in Third Person so to speak, and damn the graphics look insane for the Wii.

Where's the machine guns? I can't see them. Why? Because they didn't show any, that's why.

I completely agree about the QTE's. I kept dying at a certain boss fight because my didn't couldn't figure them out at all. Then my brother jumped in and we got it on the first go

I've already made a rage'd blog on this, so I'll keep that there.

What I will say though is it's funny that third-parties don't realize "spin-off" games have no point on a system if the "mainline" games don't even appear on said system. A lot of "core" gamers bought Umbrella Chronicles thinking it would fund a true Wii RE experience, but now it turns out it simply funded the abomination of Dead Rising: CTYD, two horribly lack-luster ports in RE1 and RE0, and another light-gun game.

For those who thoroughly love light-gun games, good for you (no sarcasm intended). I, however, personally think the genre is too shallow to pay $50 for a title.

Hmm.Sucks for wii owners, but in all fairness, they should be used to that by now.The only thing I am wondering is 1.Why has RE4 not been ported to next gen consoles with new content, online play and a high def makeover?2.Why has RE1 been remade like 80 times yet RE2,the better game IMO,has yet to get any love other than the shitty GC strait port and an occasional side story?Yet capcom decides to make a downgraded port of DR on the wii.I truly hope capcom's shitty decision making doesnt end up putting the company on the red line, like so many others right now.

I'll give it a shot i thought Umbrella Chronicles was okay. This time is looks like they are making improvements like actually seeing your partner and your weapon when you reload, which is just small cosmetic stuff but it still looks like it might be fun especially since its RE2
