Sometime next week, I'll be headed out to Las Vegas for Capcom's CAPTIVATE event, where I'll have a chance to see their forthcoming 2008-2009 line-up. Among those games will be Resident Evil 5, I'm sure — but until then, I'm scraping for all of the info I can get. And this is some good info, damn it.
GamesRadar has one of the first (as far as I know) English previews of the title, and even if it's confusing as hell to read, it does contain a fair amount of new information. I say it's confusing because the preview is all over the place. For example, in the fourth paragraph they use the words "In the areas where you’re separated from your partner," but prior to that there's no mention of a partner at all.
Later, they write "It all depends on whether you’re Player Two or not," which is the first indication that Resident Evil 5 may actually contain multiplayer elements. Then the straightforward bomb is dropped -- "Currently nameless, the mercenary’s inclusion means that, for the first time, you’ll be able to tackle a true Resident Evil game cooperatively online."
I'm really not here to critique the preview (mine will be written with a nasty hangover, to be sure), but yeah ... Resident Evil 5. Cooperative online. Discuss.
It's a rather exciting time in gaming...A lot of games these days have some sort of multiplayer, so you no longer have to play alone, or find a RL friend who likes games and likes that particular game...thus, you then have to split the screen so you can't see crap! Boo! Online ftw!
I'm with Clockwork on this one as I jumped more in RE2 and felt that it was much scarier than RE4. Re4 was amazing but I felt that the eerie ambiance was lost.
Zombie killing co-op should be cool but I hope that it doesn't, in any way, ruin the single player experience as not every game is meant to be two player. Online Co-op solitaire, Co-op Pacman, split screen masturbation....wait, what?
Yes, it was scary but it wasn't Resident Evil. It was too Supernaturaly.
And anybody who claims Resident Evil is supernatural is a moron. Supernatural implies ghosts, demons, magic etc. Sure it has zombies but they are created by a virus which isn't supernatural.
That and it's possible it will be Resi Outbreak all over again.
But seriously, if this game has co-op, we'll probably laugh at all of the scary parts because we're just that sideways.
Still as long as the single player has me buying more underwear I'll be happy.
stupid idea.dont jump on the bandwagon capcom.
Mix, RE2 was a great peak for the series, with RE3 being its worst. We were very lucky to see RE4 at all, because fans were losing interest. The old fear of RE was of bad camera viewpoints and claustraphobic fighting in tight spaces with weird controls. RE4 gave a good reboot to the series, but since the game was more open, Capcom provided the claustraphobia of being surrounded by attacking zombie people, than dank corridors with awful wallpaper.
Being creeped upon and attacked by someone is a different type of fear, that didn't really exist in RE1 and 2. Think of it as building on the whole Nemesis thing in RE3, but just because the RE4 villagers move slowly doesn't mean they are any less dangerous.
RE co-op? Ah, Capcom, you save the day again, like a some kind of angel of games.
Remember Outbreak Files 1 and 2? Remember their online modes?
Yeah, don't cock this up.
You didn't like RE3? BLASPHEMY!!!
Please......
"It's Rockets, Shotguns, pistols, ammo THEN herbs. Jesus, what's wrong with you, organise my shit!"
Co-op? No thanks.
What the hell are you talking about? RE stopped being RE? IN what way, exactly? No zombies? Wait, no. Got zombies.
Crazy mutant freaks? Hrm... pretty sure they've been in every one since. Tense solitary atmosphere? Check.
I think your just disappointed they added co-op. It's an evolution of a franchise, man! I love RE2 almost as much as 4 and Veronica, but c'mon. You're just not being fair, man. Hadn't that ever occurred to you, man?
However, Resident Evil with a competent second player might kill the tension of having to babysit a retard like Ashley from the clutches of evil.
Color me unconvinced till proven otherwise.
I'm not gonna get my hopes up though as co-op is the one feature that never quite turns out like you'd hope. Look at Too Human.
I'll be mighty impressed if the game is actually playable in its entirety in co-op.
At least in gameplay concept. Story and scary stuff is a different thing.
Adds so much reputability.
hope silent hill does as well.
No no no, you have it wrong, its pistol then shotgun then sniper rifle. Ammo and grenades underneath that, and herbs to the right.
But then I'm a pussy.
RE5 has maybe co-op?
That makes me very happy.
