With RE5 already on sale in some release date-breaking stores in Japan, we bloggers only have a very breif period of time to report on the games features like they are "news". So here is what will likely be the last new thing you hear from me about the game; it has the same Mercenaries mode as RE4

This is the best thing I've heard about the game in a while. I love RE4's  Mercenaries mode (which is part of why I liked Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop), so to see the mode (and J.J.) make a return puts a big smile on my face. More importantly, the mode appears to feature something I didn't think I'd see in RE5; NO MANDATORY CO-OP! With that, my biggest complaint about the game has essentially been fixed, if not just for this one mode.

I easily spent more than eighty hours playing RE4 Mercenaries, which is ten times as longer than RE5's reported playtime. The news that the game was so short had me bummed at first, but now that I know it has Mercenaries for sure, I don't care about the campaign's length. I'll put at least another eighty hours into RE5 with this mode alone.

J Holmes, you love gaming; and that's why I love your posts.

I didn't quite spend 80 hours, but I put at least 40 into it. It's literally TOO much fun. Which console are you getting it for? We need to trade tags and play some late night Mercs. I can't wait.

What's with this idea that all fat zombies/parasite hosts/infected explode upon death? Do fat people typical eat more black powder over the course of their lifetime than normal people? Does fat have some undiscovered volatile properties?

Wow...Does anyone care that its just a repeat of RE4?? At least you get Sheva that operates a semi-automatic weapon and is smart enough to kill, heal, and survive.
Hopefully the Mercenaries mode will have at least up to 4 people co-oping online. Or else this might just be a waste of 49.99 on opening day!!!

That's great to hear! I played the hell out of Mercenaries on the Gamecube and I know the same will happen here. Hell I even played it countless times in RE3. Definetly gives me something to look forward to since they kind of ruined it for me with the co-op.

anyone notice that a zombie appeared from nowhere just after the big gun toting machine gun fella (50 secs to go).

i just know this game is going to disappoint. i can't even be bothered to complete the demo, but i just know that i'll eventually buy it, because of my RE addiction problem.

Hey it's one of those chain gun guys from RE4, only in hi-res!

I'm now officially fucking sold on this shit. Do you know if you can do co-op in mercenaries if you wanted to? Any help would be much appreciated.

The Capcom guys mentioned mercenaries mode at the playtest a bunch of the uk dtoiders attended, im suprised this news hasnt popped up here b4. One thing i notice from that vid is it illustrates the unique tense firefights resi 5's not being able to move whilst shooting creates as you have the nastys right in your face and you have to desperately get your shots off and take them out before they you. Im not saying it wouldnt be nicer to have gears style ponderous movement whilst aiming but clearly the act of move n shoot isnt the game breaker many claim it to be as i think most will agree the game looks huge fun.

I played the crap out of Mercs in RE4. I just don't see myself playing it as much this time around. Unless they really shake it up which doesn't appear to be the case.

@UnknownSmurf: I care -because- it's a repeat of RE4. I loved RE4, and having played it again recently, I found that I still love it. It's a great game, and having more of it is not a bad thing in the slightest.

I don't think I played Mercenary mode more than the main campaign, but I certianly did enjoy playing it. Especially as HUNK and Wesker. Hopefully we'll get to play as them again.

Loved the GC Mercs mode too. It was honestly the first RE game besdides the DC version where I actually got to play it. I found unlocking the PS1 versions too much of a chore.

Co-op is icing on the cake.

@ Jack, you see, like myself, why run'n gun controls would not work in this game. I wish others could see what we do.

Great, while I wasn't a huge fan of Mercenaries in RE4 (because I sucked at it) I will defiantly try this out. It will help lengthen the game aswell. Hopefully they will have some kind of side missions, like Separate ways in the PS2 version of RE4.

I remember getting the 5 star rating on every level with every character in RE 4's Mercenaries mode... I bet I'll do that again with RE 5...

All I could think of when watching that video:

"Whoever is playing is really, really awful at this game."

Also. Fuck Sheva and her stupid AI brain.

@BulletTrain

People say they have good experiences with Sheva but mine have all sucked. She's died 10 times to the Chainsaw boss...awful.

God, I want to like this game but I just cant. The AI/animation looks so clunky. I understand it wanting to continue the path of RE4 but to leave much of the AI/animation the same seems stupid.
