Resident Evil 5 PC system requirements? Yep, we got 'em photo

There's no short supply of vocal people around these parts who didn't enjoy Resident Evil 5. Why? My guess is they didn't find it scary enough, it was too similar to Resident Evil 4, and it also wasn't as good as its predecessor. Does that make it a ridiculously horrible game that no one should ever play? Apparently.

But for those who found Resident Evil 5 to be the game equivalent of a summer action flick, or just plain liked hearing D.C. Douglas say the word "uroboros" again and again, here are the requirements for the PC version, which is due out in September.

Minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows XP/Windows Vista
  • HDD: 8 GB of free space
  • CPU: Intel Pentium D Processor/AMD Athlon 64 X2
  • Ram: Windows Vista (1 GB), Windows XP (512 MB)
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series/ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro with 256 MB of ram, DirectX9.0c/Shader 3.0

Recommended system requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core2Quad Processor or better/AMD Phenom X4 or better
  • Ram: Windows Vista (2 GB), Windows XP (1 GB)
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 series or better/ATI Radeon HD 4800 series or better with 512 MB of ram or more
Besides having exclusive costumes for Chris and Sheva and being viewable in stereoscopic 3D, the PC port has three times as many enemies in Mercenaries mode than its console brethren. All things considered, it sounds like the wait might be worth it.

Those aren't too bad actually.
All about the optimisation though.

I've been playing through Deadspace on PC having migrated from the Xbox version in light of the doubled resolution, so i guess now i can play the two games head to head, 1080p to 1080p, and see which RE4 clone is reeally superior :D

Sortof kidding. I wasn't sold on RE5 by the demo some months ago but maybe with that extra graphical boost and potential for modding i might take another look.

Dead Space >> RE5

Nice to know somebody else played the Dead Space PC version. I finally caved and got a 360 a few months after (I prefer the controls on it), but I still remember getting the piss scared out of me by that game back in my old apartment.

Three times as many enemies? Wow. Do PC players have to buy the Mercenaries mode as well, or is it free?

I passed completely on this game. they tried to be too much like call of duty and failed at the horror completely (boat rides, duck and cover?). In my opinion resident evil 1 for the gamecube was the greatest and i have beaten the game on all modes and still playing the game. resident evil 4 was a great balance of action and horror and i'd prefer that over this new action crap.

It recommends the best card out which is, by far, superior the the 360's graphics chip in every way? Stop with the crappy ports and learn to optimize. That's why PC gaming is doing so poorly. Only people like myself and the other truly hardcore PC gamers can even run the shit. If they released this PC version first and ported that code to 360 and didn't optimize it, it wouldn't even run at 5 FPS on 480P resolution.

@bustaballs: I'm guessing those recommended spec are if you want to play at extremely high resolutions and maybe in 3D as well because I can run the demo/benchmark thing fine on my 8800GT and a dual core CPU.

Three times more enemies? You mean at any given time? At once? Good... Bash those pad-controlling carebears!!! Mouse+keyboard for the win... LOL Seriously now, The specs look fairly fair. I expected them to be way over the top... Good for us. They still are, of course, way up there, more then they should be... But that's PC gaming guys and gals... Everyone must have a piece of the pie... And its not that big of a pie anymore...

Eh, I'll wait until its out and someone else tests the controls, first. Capcom are notoriously lazy with their PC ports, once they make it look nice they figure its done, no effort put into optimizing or making it play nice with mouse/keyboard. RE4 was nasty, without a controller, and the DMC games were little better.

@bustaballs - Neither of those cards are the best cards out. Nvidia gtx295 is the best, last I checked. A 9800 is pretty reasonable for a PC gamer these days, theyre good cards and can be found pretty cheap. I agree, though, they should be able to get this running well on much lower specs.

The best ATI card is among the HD4000 series, yes, the 4870x2. But then there are also HD4350's and such which are in an entirely different ballpark.
The increased enemies suggests they're making the controls better this time, instead of "Far less usable" ala RE4. Here's to hoping!
