Capcom's Jun Takeuchi told MTV Multiplayer that the Resident Evil 5 demo did rather well, moving over 4 million downloads on the PS3 and Xbox 360. That's pretty good for just a few week's time, and a pretty good sign that the game is going to sell really well.
We're with MTV in the worries that the single-player days of Resident Evil were over after seeing the cooperative element of Resident Evil 5. They went as far as to ask Takeuchi if we can have another single-player, single character Resident Evil in the future. He replies with a simple "Yes."
Yes. I'd rather go solo on a survival horror. Call me crazy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I for one liked the demo a lot, and felt the controls were perfectly fine, being a long time Resi Evil player. Also, suprisingly, the partner A.I was decent, she did'nt do anything really stupid in the demo, and was responsive when I kept saying 'C'mon!'.
Sadly, I'll have to buy this game when it becomes cheaper, other new games demand my attention at the moment. :)
A lot of the people I know who've played the RE5 demo have decided not to buy the full game because of it.
That's how demos can backfire on companies. It's great to release a demo for a game that people may have otherwise ignored (Mirror's Edge, etc), but when you've got all the expectation built up and the demo isn't that good, it's a huge turn off.
I have no doubt that the final version of RE5 will be more fun than the demo, but at $60, I'm not sure how many people are going to be willing to take the risk.
To be honest I'm glad co-op is not gonna be the norm on these games. Single player for me is the way to go.
I think it will still sell really well, but I think you may have a point. I certainly know I won't be buying it (at least not when it's $60) after playing the demo. It felt way too much like RE4 with a new coat of paint (I don't know why that's a bad thing, since I loved RE4 -- but I guess I loved RE4 so much because it was so different from anything else I'd played). Plus I heard it's pretty short.
The demo wasns't that bad at all but it felt "weird" I think the co-op will be a neat added feature but it is, in mo way, necessary.
I hope the final version of this game will be very tight and shiny.
