Resident Evil 5 on the PC? Capcom says 'Nope'

2:26 PM on 07.23.2007, Nick Chester 30 comments

     Capcom

UK videogame Web site Spong recently posted an interview with Capcom's Keiji Inafune in which he makes a curious, matter-of-fact reference to Resident Evil 5 ... on the PC.

"As for Resident Evil 5, all we’ve done is shown the trailer and we’ve been instructed not to say anything more to anybody," Inafune told Spong. "Not just you press guys ... anyone. Other than it is scheduled for release next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360."

While the game has previously been announced for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, this would be the first reference -- anywhere -- to Resident Evil 5 making its way to the PC. Destructoid contacted Capcom to clear up any confusion.

"Nope, the game has only been announced for PS3 and Xbox 360," we were told. "Our UK office will be following up with Spong to have this corrected."

So there you have it -- no Resident Evil 5 on the PC has been announced. This doesn't mean, however, that Resident Evil 5 will not be coming to PC. Perhaps Inafune was confused; talking to British people usually involves alcohol, which often makes people say the strangest things. On the other hand, with Capcom's recent success and support of Lost Planet on the PC, we wouldn't rule anything out for the future.

Just as well. From everything I gathered, the RE4 PC version was pretty terrible.

Now, if they'd just do a PC port of Dead Rising, I'd squeal like a schoolgirl...

If they had done a decent job of putting RE4 on the PC it would have been just as good (if not better) than the Wii version, but as it is, they couldn't even take the time to program in mouse aiming.... uh duh, WTF Capcom?

Good, it's a waste of time for them to port it to PC. They've wasted money doing so in the past. I'm glad they finally said next year, cause to me that makes MUCH more sense rather than 2009.. I mean, it's Resident Evil! I can't wait until they release some more info!

Yeah, but didn't Ubisoft handle the PC port of RE4?

As an avid PC gamer, and a bit of a RE fan, I am quite displeased with this news... Though I missed the whole PC announcement part to begin with, and I was never really expecting it... So its not a big deal.

@ Grim

"A PC port of Resident Evil 4 was developed by SourceNext... and was published in North America by Ubisoft." ~Wikipedia

So yes, it was published by Ubisoft, and was actually made by SourceNext. It doesn't matter anyway because it sucks big donkey balls. Go buy the Wii version and drool over the incredible aim.

@ AngelsDontBurn

How in the heck does a port that comes after the initial console release waste money or development time (note from above that Capcom had NOTHING to do with the RE4 PC port)?

Take a few minutes to think about that... If they were developing it for PC at the same time, it's not a port, it's a release.

So maybe then you could say that co-development for PC caused the extra year delay (but we all know it wouldn't, PS3 version would be the hardest to program, cell ftw), but I have a feeling that was a slip of the tongue and it was never in development for PC period!

I'm sure they spend next to nothing to have it ported and it appeals to a new audience. If they were "wasting money" I'm pretty sure that the companies wouldn't do it in the first place, but maybe the investors are asking for a loss this year...

If it's coming to the 360, it's coming to the PC as well.

Microsoft didn't slave over making D3D10 working on Vista to make it extremly easy to port games from the 360 to the PC for nothing.

They are unneccessarily huge. They make me feel less of a man. It's the equivalent effect of a woman seeing a bigger breasted woman. I'm such a nerd, with inferior biceps! *sobs*

Chris' arms look retarded. Everything else about this game looks more realistic and scary. The third world atmosphere evokes a true sense of horror.

Then you see Chris' arms, and you are back to feeling like you're playing a silly video game.

Regardless, what's this about the game not coming out in 2009?

@ Tron Knotts They're saying for 2008 now, not sure why the sudden change... but you know how that goes.

And Leon's arms look like something outta Street Fighter with the cartoon muscles. Since all they showed was a video trailer, I doubt much of this is set in stone.

@BlackDove Your right, absolutely right. Wasn't even thinking about Microsoft's new gaming push. If it's going to be brought to the 360, it's pretty much assured it'll make it to PC eventually. As much as I hate Vista (bloated POS), Games for Windows basically means every decent 360 title will be released on PC. It costs them next to nothing, and brings in a bigger market.

Should be cool to see with games like Viva Piņata, Universe at War, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Gears, and The Club all going cross platform on 360 + PC multi-player wise. On the down side, now I'll actually have to hear the whiny 12 year olds outta my loud PC speakers.

Mmmm lets see... the 360 is a custom DX9 system, not DX10.

The same studio also butchered the PC port of DMC 3.

Aaaaand RE 5 will be running on the same engine base as Lost Planet and Dead Rising, which was designed to be crossplatform over PC/PS3/360, and presumably will be developed by Capcom like I believe Lost Planet PC is.

Yeah.

Every capcom game that has been ported onto the PC flat out sucked. The controls were horrible, even with a controler. You'd think they'd let you aim with the mouse in RE4, guess again, but thanks to the modding community it was made possible and playable.

I will never. repeat. NEVER, buy a capcom game for PC.

@ gitrooman Let me point out that I just got the PC version of Lost Planet and the controls are mapped well, it works fine with a keyboard and mouse and runs like a dream on my now sub-par PC.

It runs better than the 360 version on XP with DX9 on my A64 2.2, 2gb DDR, and 7800 GS. So if Lost Planet is any indicator, Capcom can do a fantastic job putting a game on the PC if they want, and they're still continuing to release content for it.

The RE4 port was a "direct-port," like I said before, they didn't even bother to program in mouse controls. It was a cheap cash-in that we can only hope doesn't happen with RE5.

Fable II PC Nixed, Resident Evil 5 PC Coming 2009?

Jan 26, 2009 at 1:17 PM - - 19 Comments
Kazek Kowalski writes, "Jerzy Cichocki from CD Projekt (company you should know from The Witcher game - CDP is Polish Capcom games publisher too) officially announced PC version of Resident Evil 5. Game should arrive in Polish shops somewhere in second half 2009. Cichocki said that in 4:20 of this interview, let me quote (more or less) - "We know for sure that PC version RE5 will be released. We don't know when exactly but we expect that it will arrive to shops in second half 2009". What can I say - its 100% official statement."

Meanwhile, hopes of a Fable II PC port were dashed when Lionhead's community guy debunked release rumours on the official game forum: "We're not working on a PC version of Fable II... If this changes we'll make sure you know about it on our website(s)."

@ Crysalien
There is no need to be so childish.

Hava a nice day !
