Capcom seems to be doing pretty well for themselves during the economic downturn. According to their CFO, Kazuhiko Abe, the publisher has posted an eleven percent operating profit for the 2008 fiscal year. Resident Evil 5 likely played a significant role in achieving those numbers.
While speaking at the Reuters Technology Summit in Tokyo, Abe revealed that the action/horror title attained sales of 4.4 million units in March with another 570,000 sales for April. Sales numbers for May have yet to be counted but they're so close to hitting the five million mark that they might as well have called it by now.
I've always been aware that the lion's share of sales occur within the first few weeks of a game's release, but these numbers really throw that idea into sharp focus. With a drop of over 87% sales, I suppose there's something to be said for early adoptors in the software sector of the games industry.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And a big congrats to Capcom for kicking ass this year so far in terms of sales. This will be one of their best years yet, what with the sales figures of Bionic Commando still out there.
All naysayers can go suck a dick
Cool news for capcom then. But this doesn't make the wait for Dead Rising 2 any shorter. :(
my roomie, who is a huge fan of the RE series and survival games in general, says that's part of the excitement. to me, it seems like RE5 creates suspense by giving the game shitty controls.
@WarZombie: They still arent. MS sells them at a loss ;).
