Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition coming to PS3, 360 photo

Capcom is going all out with expanding the core Resident Evil 5 experience, it seems. RE5: Gold Edition was announced today, and thankfully, it's the same exact thing as the oft-talked about Alternate Edition.

Coming March 9 to PlayStation 3 as a single Blu-ray disc and to Xbox 360 as a DVD plus token for the new downloadable content, Gold Edition entails two new episodes, more costumes (presumably the RE5 PC ones), and "Mercenaries Reunion" with 8 new playable characters, each with their own specific weapons.

The developer has listed this thing as costing $49.99, which might initially seem sort of high, but the more you think about it, it's really not so bad. I mean, imagine how much all of this additional stuff is going to cost the guy who bought the game at launch and has to download this stuff individually.

Mercenaries mode is an absolute co-op blast, so Mercs Reunion is a given for me. What about y'all?

And here are the dates you can expect to find this stuff in DLC form:

Xbox 360

  • "Lost in Nightmares" episode: February 17
  • Costume Pack 1: February 17
  • Episode 2 (title TBA): March 3
  • Costume Pack 2: March 3

PS3

  • "Lost in Nightmares" episode: February 18
  • Costume Pack 1: February 18
  • Episode 2 (title TBA): March 4
  • Costume Pack 2: March 4

Unless this has the same amount of original content as RE5, this should be priced like an expansion pack. How about $14.99? Seriously, new outfits with more Jill boobs and extra assault rifles does not equal $50, even if I loved the original.

I think it comes with RE5 plus the extra stuff. So the extras are running around 30 bucks, which is still a little high.

Question 1: Will the new content be DLC?
Question 2: Will the game disc and box have a golden paint job? If so, I'll be buying it.

Alternate Edition is ten times the subtitle that is "Gold Edition". I might import.

100% Against this.

Developers should create full, working products at the time of launch. So those who want to buy the games day one don't get screwed.

Super Street Fighter 4
LittleBigPlanet GOTY
Resident Evil 5: Gold
Left 4 Dead 2 (yes... the game L4D should have been).

You can go to hell.

Perfidious Sinn: Go read the article again. It says the stuff will be available as DLC sometime later.

The DLC (excluding Versus) only costs $14. Going out and buying something for $50, if you already own it, is pointless.

this is really only a package for people who don't own the game. what i'm wondering is when the ps3 SPHERE supported RE5 is coming out. i've already gotten 1000 points in both 360 and PC re5. i need to have a reason to get a platinum trophy for it.

If I can use my original game save with the retail version of Gold, then I'm buying retail, none of this downloadable content garbage.

YES. I really liked the demo but put off buying the original. I may end up not buying this anyway because there are so many games I want that will be out around the same time though.

This is a sweet deal for those of us that don't already have the game.

HEY EVERYONE. This is just Alternative Edition on a disc. It WILL be downloadable. Learn to read. :|

Also, I'm FUCKING SICK of Microsoft buying stupid-ass exclusivity. I own all 3 consoles, so there is mostly no problem. But why do they have to buy 1 day of exclusivity? I mean SERIOUSLY. I'd even be complaining if I owned the 360 version of RE5; they are being a-holes.

Only question now is how much the DLC is going to cost. I have a feeling it'll all be $30...

Sold. Even though I'm not thrilled about having to shell out more money to enrich my RE:5 experience.

Sorry, I redact my previous statement. Just found a link that says all the DLC is $14. Whew.

At the very beginning of the game, turn around and activate the prompt at the front door. Do this three times and on the third time a ? will appear. Activate this and the game will switch to tank controlled, fixed-camera "classic mode!" Minecraft for free
