Resident Evil 5 for the Wii? It could happen photo

Chin up, Wii owners. There’s a possibility that you too will someday be able to man the meat turret known as Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5. Speaking with Reuters Japan, Capcom chief financial officer Abe Kazuhiko said that more Wii ports of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles wasn’t out of question, although the decisions would be made according to the sales of the title.

“We have not decided whether we are doing [more ports] or not doing [more ports] ,” Kazuhiko said. “Up until now, after releasing our PS3 and Xbox 360 games,” he continued, “we have brought them to the Wii. Basically, this is the approach we are considering taking.”

The man speaks the truth -- Dead Rising did eventually make it to the Wii. We wonder, though, if the controls in Resident Evil 5 will get better or worse once this port inevitably happens. There’s no way, right?

Resi 4 was suited for the wii as the graphics were on par with that of the ps2 and pc versions. This will not work as the game will look like shit compared to its older brother.

No Capcom, just give the Wii Power Stone 3 and we'll call it square.

How about designing games for the wii rather than lazy ports?

While I agree that Capcom should focus on developing for the console rather than porting things over, but I'd be surprised if they did a bad job with an RE5 port. I think it's a welcome addition to the Wii library despite my not being a huge fan of the game (need to play more) but it makes business sense for them to do it this way.

Powerstone would be so awesome though Gimic300, you're right.

Yeah.. uhh Capcom, no. Yeah it would be cool if there were more of your games on Wii, but no downgraded ports that make it look like a joke.

Make something new or make a worthy port, not... not something like Dead Rising for Wii because that was such a shame. Maybe PowerStone if its not much to ask or anew Zack and Wiki directed in the right way.

FUCK SHIT, I didn't meant directed, I meant advertsied, God.

@ Scroll - Cause it's cheaper and easier. Plus, they've tried making original games, it didn't exactly work. While the RE chronicles sold pretty well, Zack and Wiki, an original (and amazing) title did not. Hell, even Okami, which was all but reworked for the Wii didn't sell that well. But lazy ports? Those should sell just fine. It's a weird paradox, and while we would all like to see more original games, it might be a bit too risky.

As for an RE5 port? I think the dead rising port proved that it might not be a great thing, unless they redo it in the RE4 engine.

I have the PS3 version and love it, but if the controls for this ended up being the same as RE4Wii, I'd get it just for that. Just make sure it's built for the system and not ported.

How are they going to make RE5 in 2D?

I don't think it will look quite like ass, but it won't be anywhere near as pretty as the others.
I think I might pass, though, because of the co-op thing. If they could do it properly (besides splitscreen) I might be interested.

RE 5 was disappointing.

A watered down port of Re 5 ?

No thank you.

RE5 Wii Changes
----------------
-Due to memory and processing power limits, enemies will now be represented by untextured cubes.
-Since violent games don't sell well on the Wii, all guns will be replaced with radios
-Green herbs promote drug use, so no more health system. Sheva will now save you ala Erika in Prince of Persia when you die.
-Controls have been optimized for the Wii. There are no more "traditional controls" per se. Movement/combat/inv management is now entirely waggle-based (Make big circles with the Wiimote to use your radio)
-Less zombies, more babies/minigames

... do you even know what you are talking aboutt? Meeting a downgraded system could also remove features.

...although that could bea good thing, to not have pigmies or the ridiculous tribal suit...

If they keep the same control scheme from the port of 4, it will be incredible.

I played through it once on co-op with my neighbor, and I thought it was a sad parody of RE4 (one of my all time favorites). Control scheme or graphics aside, RE5 isn't bad - it's just not good.

A watered down game to fit on the Wii. But the most important thing is...will there be waggle?

Watering down a game that prides itself on it's visuals just seems...counter-productive.

Odds are this won't happen. Why don't you Wii-bots just get a 360 or PS3? Take your pick.

I seem to recall an announcement for the localization of a certain VS Capcom game recently that included a bunch of people asking for 360/PS3 ports. It goes both ways.
Kyousuke Nanbu's Avatar

The thing with RE5 is that it was built on the 360 and PS3, RE4 was made for the cube and PS2, porting it to the Wii was an improvement.

This has nothing to do with graphic whores, you're taking a game made for one console and porting it to a weaker one, see Dead Rising Chop Till Drop as evidence for what happens when you do that.

Maybe an all-new RE5 side-story would be good, a port wouldn't be worth playing. I love RE4 Wii's controls.

I suppose a Wii version with no online could combat the main gripe I had with the other console version, which was the focus on co-op. Still, I've played Resident Evil 5 on the PS3, I don't want to see it on the Wii..
Magnalon's Avatar

You see, if that game were ported to the 360/PS3, it wouldn't have shit online play, the graphics would probably be upgraded, and additional features would also be game.

Of course, it doesn't look bad at all, just not as good as say...Street Fighter 4.

Wow... that is such an awful idea. I mean, sure, it would sell. But they should at least do like a Wii version of the series (like what DeadSpace is doing) and not just port it.

If it looks as good as RE4, ditches co-op entirely, makes veteran the standard difficulty, brings back the merchant and typewriters, ditches the cover system, and gives Chris Redfield normal sized arms, then I will buy it, and potentially love it.

RE5 needs some fixing, and that could be done with a Wii remake.

@Jonathan Holmes

-"If it looks as good as RE4," It SHOULD, and i do mean SHOULD cuz i'm not holding my breath here

-"ditches co-op entirely" maaaaaybe

-"brings back the merchant and typewriters, ditches the cover system" ok, now you're just asking for miracles

-"and gives Chris Redfield normal sized arms" i stand corrected!, if they did this it would be on nothing less than divine intervention.

Basically as long as they do it with the same care as RE4 was done, even with watered down graphics it would be good for me, still, i won't expect anything until i actually have it in my hands.

RE5 will suffer graphically, but a port of SFIV will do well to find it's way to the Wii especially since Nintendo is developing a "pro" classic controller for Monster Hunter 3 and obviously for use with Tasunoko vs Capcom.

Y'know what people, DEAD RISING ON THE WII WAS GOOD. I know because I played it! So just shut up about it and play Halo or Assasin's Creed something else like that. As for everyone who's still reading, stop boohooing about a port of the game. Is it impacting you directly? No? Then shut it.
