Resident Evil 5: El Gigante is back, and he's pissed photo

Portuguese site Revil has some spoiler-ish scans from Famitsu on Resident Evil 5. We decided to let you check them out for yourself if you'd like. If you ask me, they're nothing serious -- mostly stuff you've seen before, apart from one inclusion.

One thing we did notice is that our boy El Gigante, the giant recurring sub-boss of Resident Evil 4, is back, and he looks pretty pissed off this time around. It looks like he has more battle scars than he did before, which makes sense. And it may just be me, but the dude is looking a bit more ape-ish than before.

It's not clear, but the pictures on this scanned page seem to point to vehicular combat with the beast. I wonder if we'll get to blast him with the rocket launcher again.

Hit the jump to see if El Gigante reminds you of another videogame character.

Wow. RE5 has taken one more step towards proving its just a copy/paste of RE4

I've been trying so hard for months to ignore RE5 stuff like this. I just want SOMETHING in the game to be a surprise.

I have a feeling this will be like Dead Space all over again.

Nice find, though.

I'm torn, on one side this is awesome, on the other I wish this wasn't spoiled.

@SephirothX - Because RE4 sucked? I'm confused, what's not to look forward to with RE5?

Its not that RE4 sucked. Its that I dont wanna pay 60 bucks for the same game in 720p.

And RE4 isnt some sacred shrine of gaming... it was a good game but it had room for improvement, mainly in regards to controls. Go play Dead Space, it has a control scheme that RE5 should be using.

Really? Again? Sephiroth X, if you search destructoid for every single Resident Evil 5 article, you are there to bash it.

I'll ask you this question again. How was Resident Evil 2 different than 1. There are more differences in 4/5 than there are in 1/2. No one complained then, because that's generally what sequels do (build off of previous iterations).

What is the problem? Co-op adds more to the franchise than any other iteration ever did.

Let me ask you this, have I ever said 2 was better than 1? No, I could probably bash 2 for being a copy/paste of 1 if I really wanted to.

The reason I'm "bashing" RE5, if you wish to use that term, is because there little to no change in 5 versus 4. Its not like DMC4 where they added a new character and moves, its not like Halo 3 where they added a few new weapons and items, its the exame same. It's not similar, its same-ular. Hell, even the demo mission had you locked in a room shoving bookcases in front of windows (wow, this doesnt sound like something we've done before has it?). I'm sick of everyone overhyping a game despite obviously ignoring the lack of improvement.

And I'm usually not one to criticize peoples opinions, but no there isnt anything different from 4/5 outside of coop and graphics. Sequels are meant to improve and build upon the previous game, not repackage it and ship it as "new". If you really think the graphics are the most important improvement to a game then you are simply locked in tunnel vision. I'm concerned about the core of the game; the controls and the AI, which havent changed a single bit in this game. The enemies do the exact same actions and animations as in 4 and Chris simply punches enemies instead of kicking them. Id like enemies that are slightly more aggressive and intelligent as well as controls that arent as clunky and restrictive.

Like I said, Dead Spaces controls made the best improvements to the RE4 controls scheme.

You should definitely play Devil May Cry 4. There is more copied in that game from previous Devil May Cry games than most franchises' action series copy from their previous iterations. Nero really wasn't different from Dante at all other than his "arm" mechanic. The game played exactly the same.

When I look at a game, the last thing I look at are graphics. True, I am an action-adventure whore, which means I've played tons of games that are exactly the same with a different skin. That said, they ARE basically ALL the same. Onimusha 1-4, Devil May Cry 1-4 (new character or not), Tomb Raider, Tenchu 1-2, etc etc. I believe that the Resident Evil 5 demo took the good parts of 4, and that's not a terrible thing.

I believe the level designs, and overall story will be better in 5. To me, that's a big part of an action-adventure game. Again, Devil May Cry 4 was not an example of a "good" change. The level design regressed from previous games and is not an example of a "good" change for the future of action-adventure games.

I respect your opinion, no doubt: don't get the wrong idea, or defensive. I just don't get why you have to pipe in every RE5 article, and act like more of the same is always bad. Most action-adventure games are like this; this isn't new, so coming to a new realizeation that action-adventure games are copy/pastes, to me, seems a bit silly.

Like any good sequel it takes the best parts of the previous and expands on them. I am still picking this up.

I don't see the resemblance at all!
@ anyone who is arguing about REZ5 being similar to REZ4

Have any of you played the game in entirety? Wait till the game comes out, play it, then make your comments. If you have played the demo, maybe the rest of the game will be a bigger step forward that you think. Now, I have my concerns about REZ5 as well, but I still think the game will be great.

I have also noticed that all the enemies act the same way and even move the same way, respond the same way to being shot, which is naturally kind of a downer. But in the case of RE5 I'm more interested in the story and the scenery, and possibly the puzzles.

There weren't many "puzzles" in RE4, you just had to push some blocks around from time to time. But the game play was good, I enjoyed the GC controls (Wii controls were better) but I had good times, and if they can make the small improvements, I can deal with the similarities.

Yee! This game is looking better and better, from where I'm sitting!
Can't wait!
Thank you, Capcom!

Having similar gameplay to RE4 is not a bad thing, but when they start throwing in minibosses from the previous game as well, I start to get a little worried. However, I would rather have this fight spoiled than a faceoff against an original enemy.

I'll be picking this game up regardless though.
