If you're like us, you were excited as hell to see the footage of Resident Evil 5 that came out of the 2007 E3 Media & Business summit. The upcoming installment of the popular survival horror series for PS3 and Xbox 360 is still in development and a bit of a ways off, so we'll have to make do with trailers, footage, and screenshots for awhile.
Here's more video goodness. Chris Redfield is still running from freaky African guys. We don't know much else, but we like what we see. It still looks incredible. It should look even better in high-definition when it hits both the PlayStation Network and the Xbox LIVE Marketplace later today. For now, enjoy.

Meet the rest of the team
1) The control style looks the same as in RE4. Look closely and you can see examples of this (the turning esp. @ 1:58). I really hope they do something a bit different this time. I love RE4 but the controls could be improved.
2) Voice acting. If they have any lines like the one at the end "I have a job to do, and I'm going to see it through" they really need to hire a better dialogue writer. Hopefully that was just a cheesy trailer move, and the game won't have super awkward dialogue like that.
I like pissed my pants when Joe showed me this earlier!!!! Holy heck is this going to be crazy!
As I said in someone else's blog, I feel someone is going to pull the racist card if they are ignornant or a racist. I mean they attack you first and there is no rule that bad guys have to be white in RE games.
It is RE4 ADVANCED controls. It will probably be more advanced with live actions movement. & RE series has been known for cheesy one-liners and such...I love that!
Seems like Chris is supposed to check something out, but then BAM zombies. It will most likely be another virus like re4, though.
If mobs of enemy's are around every corner surrounding you, though, the controls need major tweaking.
And I am with bobthecat23, I absolutely loved RE4 (one of the best games ever) but I feel it is just RE4 in a different location. Every animation was exactly the same (not including being slammed to the ground). They need to add dual analogue control, hold R for aiming, but allow right thumbstick to move you about (slowly), and the left to aim.
If they added dual analog control then it better not be pinpoint accurate like an FPS. I thought RE4's control was relatively realistic (have yet to cap an ass myself), and also thought that UT2004 controls are better used for UT2004, not RE4.
What the cack, left to aim and right to move? That'd fuck up everyone who's used to dual analog control. What is this, a Bond game??
Spaniards, mexicans, everyone's out to kill whitey. Besides, all the zombies from the first umpteen games were american white guys anyways.
Game looks incredible, I will get it for the 360 with a slight feeling of a missed opportunity, it will be difficult going back to laboured analogue aiming after playing RE4 Wii Edition.
This is a game that totally justifiys it's need for HD detailed graphics so I can fully understand why it isn't coming out for Wii. I'm just hoping that Capcom can release a graphically watered down version for the Wii, looking at that trailer, the control style is very much like RE4, firing into that mob of enemies won't be as responsive or thrilling with the 360 pad.
Yeah, most game developers should just stop pretending that they make games and just go and make CG movies or feature length animations, which is what they really want to do. The fact that most game development time is now spent on the visuals and animation rather than developing gameplay, is proof that they are interested in the aesthetic and presentation element of gaming and not the mechanics of game design.
So yeah, they should go and make some spectacular animation.
Yeah I kind of miss that too, I also like the new direction though. I just hope RE5 doesn't start a trend in game developers using developing countries as a backdrop for their fantasy killing spree.
Now somehow let me plug a Wii controller into my 360 and I will be SUPER happy. Man after going to my friends house and playing it on a Wii I was just amazed.
I actually like the way they're taking the series. Every culture has their word for zombie, and each culture has a different story about where they come from. I think it's nice that Capcom is exploring those different possibilities because, as cool as a T-Virus outbreak is, I find these to be "fresher" and more interesting.
That said, if they're just making up bullshit and being racist, that's gonna suck. But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
similar enemy attack animations - meh, but the # of enemies onscreen baffles me
It probably is sherry in that container, if not..Jill, rebecca-lol, claire
Of course people will pull the race card. It's ripe for it, logical or not.
This looks great. I'm not even a fan of the Resident Evil games. (There's a lot of that going around: great games winning me over, even when I've never been interested in any of the previous games in the series.) I don't know if it's supposed to be in Africa - probably not - but it does a good job of giving that sort of feel. (I've been to Africa, I know these things, people!) It actually managed to bring back a few memories.
Nice, I like how they have fast zombies in this one, but we better not be carrying any stupid presidents daughter around. It pissed me off the girl couldn't defend for herself.
You KNOW people are gonna pull the race card. It's just how they are. Yay society!
Game looks amazing though! I like how the dialogue is slowly getting better with the release of every new RE title. But hey come on, what's RE without cheesy one liners or cheesy dialogue period?
Either way I'm definitely looking forward to playing this and finding out more about the backstory.
Resident Evil 5: Crazy Black Folks! F...
I mean, Resident Evil 5 FTW!... o_o.
I admit, switching them may not be the best idea ever, but it does allow for the "A is your action button" feel that RE4 went for. Plus, the right thumbstick would only be used to make small adjustments, like backing up. If you really wanted to get out of there you could always release the R trigger, flip 180 and sprint away as normal.
They need to come out with a 360 compatible Wii-Remote rip-off for this game. After playing RE4 on the Wii, I am totally spoiled. As fun as this game looks, I honestly don't think I could go back to the old way of playing.
If the game isn't coming until 2009, they have plenty of time to implement the Wii-Remote rip off, or port this down to the Wii.
On a seperate note, I think the blonde chick at the end is Alexia Ashford. That menacing look she gives us at the end couldn't come from Sherry or Claire.
Yeah I saw this earlier.
Lets just hope they keep with the RE style of play, and don't lean more towards the mindless 360 fps games that there are way to many of.
Looks interesting though and like Cameron(sometypeofvehicle) said; It looks much like the re4 aiming style.
This won't be that bad, as long as the aiming sensitivity can be adjusted unlike re4.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
2 things though:
1) The control style looks the same as in RE4. Look closely and you can see examples of this (the turning esp. @ 1:58). I really hope they do something a bit different this time. I love RE4 but the controls could be improved.

Late.

I hope they keep the same control scheme, RE4's was pretty perfect, aside from maybe having to go to the menu to swap weapons every time.
It is RE4 ADVANCED controls. It will probably be more advanced with live actions movement. & RE series has been known for cheesy one-liners and such...I love that!
Maybe she got captured?
But the blonde hair makes me think of Sherry Birkin.

Think of the HD bosses!
RE4 was Spaniards, not Mexicans.

Lee.
Shit.
I just crapped awesomesauce out my eyes.
THERE I SAID IT!!
CAPCOM I LOVE YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus, THESE ARE NOT ZOMBIES!

Thanks for showing me that video. Now I know I'll play it even less than RE4 which was like 5 minutes.
Please Capcom, learn how to add some strafing to your controls, hell, I'd even take STIFF STRAFING! Anything. Please. I want to play an RE game again.
But Wii controls are not.

Some stay dry and others feel the pain!
