Resident Evil 5: AE content: DLC or a new disc? Vote! photo

Got an account at Capcom-Unity? Good. You can use it to vote on whether the upcoming Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition content should be available as a digital download, or if Capcom should instead opt for an all-new retail package with the extra missions lovingly burned to the disc.

The company is already set on putting out a new physical product for Japan, but as for the United States and Europe? Your guess (or vote, rather) is as good as mine. Why can't it be both? Uh ... "we'll have to get back to you on that."

Early last month before we even knew Alternate Edition existed, we had heard talk of how the RE5 team was at least entertaining the idea of additional downloadable content. So perhaps the studio would rather go that route, and simply wants a second opinion on the matter.

I personally don't like DLCs. That's why I'm going to sell my copy my Fallout 3 on PS3 and Buy a GOTY edition. I don't like donwloading things. I want physical things so it has resale value.

I love DLC. I'm tired of buying games twice just to get additional content. In this day and age I think there should always be DLC for new content and retail discs should only be used when absolutely necessary. I have no pity for those without good internet connections.

this is DLC content, its from what i've seen the spencer mansion scene from the flashback with chris and jill and nothing more this SCREAMS DLC content based on fan feedback of what they would like to see more of, and this is just that. But I am pretty sure a Directors Cut of Resi 5 will find its way to store shelves at somepoint.

Also surely it is cheaper to produce this content as DLC than anything else right, I assume this debate comes up because M$ take a bigger cut from DLC than they do from retail products?

@AndreVader24
But the question is is it worth it to pay full or near full price fir the same experience with a few add-ons?

In some cases it is. I'd argue GTA IV's two episodes repackaged with the full game is worth maybe $50.

But 80% of the time DLC is the way to go. Bring it Capcom. And as DaedHeas said if you don't have Internet then...well...damn. That blows.

Funny.
I own two TRS-80s. And LOTS of these disks.

Either way people will complain. With people hating DLC and with people hating buying the same game again, no publisher can win.

It would be better DLC but I will still get it if it's a new disc

Can't we have both DLC & Retail Disk?

Definitely disc. I haven't purchased a bunch of DLC that I would have bought and played otherwise (GTA4, Fallout 3, etc.) because I had to own original game just to play the DLC...and if I decided I no longer wanted the original game and sold it, I was unable to play the DLC.

Why would you play the Fallout 3 DLC without playing Fallout first? That makes no freaking sense.
Discs are stupid. Make it DLC. It's small enough. Last thing I want to do is shell out another $60 for a bonus mission.

They should do what Iphone developers do - make the content a free download and burn it into every new RE5 disk they produce.

And I am absolutely sticking with the free part. If we already bought the game, we should not be looted for more cash. We already showed our support for RE5 by buyig the game, and that can be could enough for Capcom.

It has to follow a particular pattern:
The original game is $60 at launch.
If it's substantial DLC, it'll be $20 for the addon.
So, if it's as a new disc, it should be priced at $40 to offset the folks who already bought it once versus the folks who are just now getting it almost a year later with new content included.

Simple.

If they do both, they can ensure complete global saturation!

I vote for a disc. Either way, I'll have to buy the game again.

I'm torn. If it was DLC, I'd buy it and play through the game a few more times. If it was a disk, I could ostensibly rent it from Gamefly, since the replay value will be limited.

This needs to be DLC. RE5 sold many copies, including many people like me who got the collector's edition and wouldn't want to "upgrade" just to get an additional short scenario and a few costumes. They really should do both (a la the Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition greatest hits version), but if they can't do both, DLC is definitely preferable.

@ AdamantiumHip

You, sir, made my day.

I'll vote for physical, but I still believe that we should have both options. Capcom could print so many off to order if necessary. The way Criterion and Rockstar are doing with Burnout and GTA is cool way to go too.

It needs to be DLC form. I'm fine with bring out RE5 AE but I don't think it's fair for people who aren't gonna buy the Sony Wiimote to miss out on some possibly great levels, especially when they already have the game.

I would rather it be DLC. I'm gonna leave the voting up to people who aren't so lazy though.

I say either or. DLC is convinient, but I like what the Fallout series did, releasing their additional levels in both disc and downloadable form.

Since I'm not some little kid whose dad/mom's buying everything for him: DLC. I'm not paying for the same thing, with a little extra, twice. DLC is always at a better pricepoint than a new game when it comes to MS.

Why the hell do so many of you American kids, especially on these blog sites, write United States, and not North America, when referring to this continent? The differences between Canadian and Stateside content releases are rarely, if ever, different, so ignoring Canada and mentioning "The United States and Europe" along with Japan makes you sound horribly ignorant.
