Well, Onimusha 3 didn't suck, and it's not exactly cause and effect, but producer Shinji Mikami did link the two in a recent interview. Onimusha 3's jank camera helped inspire the over-the-shoulder camera of Resident Evil 4, it seems. Speaking on game inspiration, Mikami said that if Onimusha 3 would have been better, he might not have thought of Resident Evil 4!
Mikami: "For BioHazard 4 it came from playing Onimusha 3. If only the camera was behind the player, it would have been so much better. That stemmed the idea for creating the camera system--the [third-person shooter] style--in BioHazard 4."
He continues: "Probably if Onimusha 3 had been better, I wouldn't have thought of BioHazard 4."
Seeing as how I played the sh*t out of RE4, Mikami should mess up more often.
