Resident Evil 4 for Wii is NOT censored photo

It's been reported that Resident Evil 4 for the Wii will be censored. Technically, this is true. The original source, Next-Gen.biz, said:

"...a great portion of the blood and gore has been excised from the game. Headshots no longer kill, limbs can no longer be shot off."

Now us flag-waving, zombie killing, corn growing Americans can't do with just that! We need to see those zombies shot in the head and have them go down. Otherwise, our aiming skills were all for naught. We went ahead and contacted Capcom, and here's the word straight from them:

RE 4 Wii Edition content in Japan is based on their previous releases, the US version content will be similar to previous releases here (not talking about any of the Wii Edition functions with the controls of course, just about gameplay content).

So there you have it. The U.S. games won't be censored, but the Japanese game will, as it has been in the past. Crisis averted. Now, I think you finally have time to make a profile.

This is going to be great, even if it is a port. Hopefully this affords capcom the opportunity to fine-tune the remote handling routines without having to worry about fine-tuning the rest of the game, since that was already done before on similar, though slower, hardware. This is an excellent first step to good third party support. As much as I want to see original titles, ports that take full advantage of the controller are good for developers because they have a game that's basically finished, except for the all-new techniques and toolchains developed for the remote, so 100% of the budget can be used to work on the controls.

I was a little worried for a minute. Ubi took decapitations out of The Two Thrones for Wii :(

Ubi also admitted porting games half-assedly in an attempt to capitalize on Nintendo's buzz.

@ imbeta

that is what the "make a profile" link in the story links too....

@Ambulance-Y

the rumor more so came from Japanese gameplay since the game is out already. Japan has it censored so people thought the US was too.

Thank god. I still don't understand the rationale behind Ubisoft's censoring of Prince of Persia: Rival Swords (a.k.a. The Two Thrones) on Wii, bringing it down to a T rating, and I would have rioted if Resident Evil was somehow censored.

I feel kinda bad for Japan, though; for all the Jack Thompson outbursts and knee-jerk media reactions we have, Japan is actually censoring its violent material.

The censoring of violence in Rival Swords was undoubtedly part of the half-baked porting process. Ubi figured, much along the lines of hollywood, that a rating that allows teenagers to partake without mommy's permission would relate to increased sales on Nintendo's money printer. However, they forgot that, unlike hollywood, the game industry consumer actually cares about a modicum of quality.

Fana7ic, love you avatar. Toonstruck rocks.

It's a cruel twist of fate that after my feverish and ultimately succesful hunt for the GC version of RE4 the Wii version was announced not long afterwards, but nonetheless I'm still gonna get it for the Wiimote aiming (always fun ^^) and the Ada missions.
