Resident Evil creator won't be playing Resi 5 photo

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami may have birthed us a famous horror series, but he is currently spurning it. The ex-Capcom man is refusing to play Resident Evil 5, claiming it will cause him too much stress to do so.

"I probably won't play it. I won't like it, because it's not going to be the game I would have made," explains Mikami. "It'll just cause me stress if I play it. I think it could be fun for gamers to play it, but not for someone who has developed Resident Evil games.

"If I see anything in Resident Evil 5 that isn't done well, I'll be angry!"

And you wouldn't like Shinji Mikami when he's angry.

Seriously though, it must be difficult for a game maker once a franchise has been wrested from his hands, having to watch other people develop it and take the IP in directions you had never intended. It would be like a musician being forced to hand over his instruments to someone else and watching a totally different person play under their name.

Still, Mikami is with Platinum now, a company that is showing amazing potential. Perhaps it's best that he's devoting his time to Suda 51 projects and secret Sega shenanigans, rather than waste time playing those no good videogames.

Typo in title.

That's the ugliest article title ever.

Still, that's weird hearing that from him, when he's the one who spearheaded the change of direction in RE4 as well. Maybe he doesn't like co-op or something?

Please extend "Resi" to "Resident Evil." Please. It hurts me. The title won't be too long, I promise. Or maybe "Resident Evil creator won't be playing RE5"? I love you.

Good. I'm glad I'm not the only one butt hurt about the awful "The Thing" inspired zombies.

My sentiments exactly. It won't be a Resident evil game. I did like RE4 more than any other game in the series, but I don't want another one like it. Instead of just changing the aiming an camera, they turned it into an action game. "Survival" and "horror" don't even describe it anymore.

1 The first 3 games sucked and they controled like tanks and had no value in be scary they was not and the gameplay sucked.

2 the 4th game was almost playble that controled less like tanks for the first time but it also sucked.

3 the 5th game looks just as lame as the 4th game.

So thank god he is not working on it or it would be as lame and sucky as the first game and crontrol worse than lara in tomb raider drunk.

If i had to pick what series of games conrtoled worse than resident evil I think I would go with drunk lara in one of her worst games.

God these games are horrible why do I keep borrowing them oh right because it is free, and making fun of bad horror games is about as fun as doing it with bad horror movies.

However nobody's heard what John Carpenter's thoughts were on the blockbuster video game version of "The Thing". I'm sure he choked up at least once.

Important to note that Mikami's favorite character in the franchise is Jill.

Well there is at least one thing that also makes me very sceptical about that title. It's the inclusion of coop. First of all I hate coop because I don't want my success in a game to be dependent on one of my assy friends. It's not that they are all assholes but they generally tend to suck at games and so I don't feel like my gameplay is improving in coop as it is intended by the devs instead I feel like I'm held back and that I can't use all my capabilities therefore breaking the game for me.
But that is just me and not the point I want to make. What really bothers me is why they would ever decide to integrate cooperative play in Resident Evil, a survival horror game. Especially Resident Evil was always about being alone and having to survive against the zombies. That whole feeling of anxiety and being on your own will be just thrown out of the window when you have someone constantly helping you and talking to you over the voice chat. I really want my game to have atmosphere and I belive that the only way someone could ever completely dive into the story of a game is if there is noone to interrupt this illusion of realism.
So in the end yeah I really feel like coop could potentially fuck up the whole idea behind Resident Evil games and to me the inclusion of it just feels like another "me too" move.

I agree that it won't be as scary/tense with two people helping out. I remember the thing that kept me going through the ashley sections in RE4 was either the thought of playing it without her sorry ass or being able to throw her in a dumpster so i didn't have to worry about her.

I bet Mikimi already had a fit when he saw the dirt bike riding zombies of RE5.

I know I did.

Possibly just a nice way of saying he doesn't like the direction it is taking. And if anyone can feel that way, I think the original creator is allowed to. I'm sure it will be a good game, I just don't want it to swing anymore towards 3rd person shooter than it already has. There are lots of those. I was accepting of RE4 at the time because there was nothing around like it.

You know honestly the tank controls were the best part of the old games. It was really what made you feel almost helpless half the time trying to get away.
