Resdient Evil 5 to be in 3D on PC photo

The third dimension is all the rage right now. Hollywood is hoping that it will save the theater industry despite the fact that it has always fizzled out in the past, and now, thanks to NVIDIA and Resident Evil 5, it looks like 3D PC gaming is going to be racking up another big name game. It's been confirmed that when RE5 hits on the PC this July it will feature support for NVIDIA's GeForce 3D Vision technology. Shnazzy, I know.

The 3D Vision technology will set you back around $200, but they do work on variety of games, though evidently some games work better than others. If you've been to a 3D movie recently you've probably put on a pair of glasses that work in much the same way. This isn't your father's 3D. No more blue and red images, just subtle shades of gray and a slight feeling of going crosseyed. I'm not sure if this makes up for PC gamers getting the game so late though. Wouldn't you rather have had even more extra content instead of a gimmick only a handful of people are able to use?

Hmm, I'm not quite sure if I'm sold on this 3D gaming stuff yet.
But "Resdient" Evil could be pretty cool with hoardes on not-zombies coming out of the screen at me.

OMG, it'll be like the chainsaw zombies can reach out and actually cut my head off!

Wait, that's not such a good thing.

If 3D gaming was done right, I think it could potentially be pretty cool. However, if it continues like this new 3D in movies, then no thanks. I saw Bolt in 3D and all it really did was blur the background a bit more than normal, and gave elements in the foreground jagged edges.

Then again, maybe I'm just seeing the wrong movies in 3D.

This shit sounds like a headache waiting to happen.

I hope they pack some Aleve with the game.

The list of games in 3D is actually really extensive. The fact that a major release like this will be compatible with 3D monitors should surprise no one who has followed the technology a little.

I've seen the NVIDIA 3D thing in action, and I gotta say...worth the money IF you care about that sort of thing.

Only IF.

I'd be curious to see what it's like to play a game in 3-D like that.

Before you all get hot and heavy about this technology, the glasses and hook up while only $200 require an LCD panel that displays in 120Hz vs. the %99 percent market penetrating 60Hz that chances are all of us have.

Ergo, you'll need to upgrade your monitor to use them, and the 2 "Certified" monitors I read about when the glasses came out cost like $900-$1500 each. I am sure the price will go down, just something to keep in mind before you think "Oh, $200 isn't bad for kick ass 3D!"

@Jon B: Heh, PhysX, I bet you were thrilled when nVidia released drivers that adds PhysX to 8x00+ cards. Cue the Trumpet "Wha... Whaaaa..."

Yeah unless you already have a monitor with 3D support or compatible HDTV as well as a GeForce 8800GT graphic card or better you are looking at spending at least a grand to get that 3D zombie shooting thrill ride.

Then again it is the "future of gaming" and you know how we all bought into the "next-gen" craze a few years ago with expensive Xbox 360s and PS3s consoles.
