Rep. William Fourkiller: The dumbest man in Oklahoma? photo

I know three things about Oklahoma. It's the name of a musical, it's a state in a country across the pond and now it's somewhere that needs to be protected from the evils of videogame violence! Oklahoma shit eater lawmaker, State Representative William Fourkiller, has Oklahoma citizen's best interests at heart by proposing a 1% tax on violent games. As we all know, taxes based on morality are the only way to ensure the young stay sane.

Ignoring, for a moment, that there's no real evidence that violent videogames (or indeed any media) will turn your kids into sociopathic killers, this proposed bill is rather liberal with the word "violent." Since the only way to be sure a game is violent would be to actually play the game and thus risk the mental health of the player, all games that receive a rating of Teen, Mature or Adult Only will be deemed violent games. The brutal, bloody and disgustingly violent Dance Central 2 is an example of the sort of game Mr Fourkiller wants to save you from.

Not surprisingly, this is a direct condemnation of videogames specifically and no other media will be taxed more due to this. I don't believe Oklahoma will be truly safe until all evidence of violence is removed from that fine state. Books should be burned, musicians should be crucified and people with the word "killer" in their name should be hung drawn and quartered. Let's get this angry mob started!

Oklahoma Bill to Tax Violent Video Games [Time]

This isn't a democrat vs republican debate. This is one person with an extreme view that isn't shared by members of his party, nor by his constituants.

It's still too early to say if he has the support of his fellow Democrats and other politicians in the state. The bill was just introduced. Historically, hate towards "violent" video games has come from both sides of the aisle, with the only rational voice being, and I can't believe I'm saying this because of who is in it, the Supreme Court.
This issue in particular I would say is a Democratic issue, because instead of trying to ban video games, he's trying to tax them. Tea Party hates taxes, ergo it's Democrats like William who introduce superfluous taxes on people that has in part lead to the creation of the Tea Party.

@crackedbat yeah but even those people attack video games and other things they do not understand, to put it simply its just a generational gap from peopl who don't under stand that video games are not just packman anymore, and that people who have become adults continue to be gamers, don't turn this into a purly polital thing, it ju8st an ignorant person breeding more ignorance he just happens to be in a paticular party.

That is in no way the point I was trying to make. I'm calling the guy a dumbass because it's actions like his, introducing unnecessary taxes, that have created the Tea Party, a bunch of senior citizens who helped ruin the country.

Of course they don't understand it. People in Congress don't understand anything. Last month they were trying to legislate the entire Internet while at the same time admitting they're not geeks and don't "get" the Internet.

I live in Maryland, so I really couldn't care less. All I care about right now is that I just found out that both ZeniMax Media (Father company of Bethesda) AND Bethesda are like 2 mins from my house. It's enough to give me a nerdgasm.

Not to mention that the ESRB is an independent organization and can thus use this legislation to manipulate game revenue.

Good reporting, but don't worry about it, man. This bill isn't going anywhere, dead-on-arrival. By the way could you find out if this dude with the awesome last name is up for re-election this year? That would go a long way towards explaining why he thinks the Supreme Court of the United States is wrong.

It's only 6 cent's on the dollar, I buy a game maybe 6-10 a year. If I bought them all new that would be anywhere from $360 to $600, who gives a shit if spend an extra 6 bucks after that...

As much as I disagree with Fourkiller, I do have to say that he's at least being reasonable with the consequences he wants to dish out to things he doesn't like because he doesn't understand them. A 1% tax is 60 cents per game, and although his definitions are idiotic, nobody's really going to be harmed by 60 cents

You are scum. Seriously, that's all I have to say to people like you. You are a prime example of what's wrong with the American mindset towards politics. Just because it doesn't affect your state doesn't mean it doesn't set a dangerous precedence.

But whatever, it's probably for the best that a dumb motherfucker like you doesn't vote anyway. I'd hate to think your vote is worth just as much as mine.

Demotwats, teabags, republicunts, I don't give a fuck. This idea may not call for a large tax or banning video games, but that's not the point. This is about some idiot who clearly has no idea what he's doing and trying to gain public support by saying that he's trying to help stop violence by taxing "violent" video games.

Yet almost everyone wants to bitch when and only when something affects them. Even though the bastards didn't even vote. Grrrrrrr.
