Over on Polygon, Reverse Enginears has posted a rather excellent look at the progression of PC gaming, starting with Zork and M.U.L.E. and continuing all the way up to Diablo III. Best of all, it's set to the catchy beeps and boops of the games being featured.
While there's bound to be some stuff that regrettably didn't make the cut, this was really well done overall. And, hell, they went to the effort of separately listing out the titles referenced in the video. I can dig it.
This video made no sense. Evolution in what way? can't really say graphics because each of those games uses a different style that isn't necessarily reflective of systems processing power. I'm sure many would agree Diablo III is far from the end-all of PC graphics. How about Gameplay? Again, each are different genre and hardly able to be compared. There is no benchmark here to claim evolution of any kind.
Much ado about nothing. Vid should have been called "Some PC Games Throughout the Years."
First comment and is already a pointless rant about someone's efforts to create something cool... wow.
Besides Diablo III is one of the newest titles that came out... it's safe to say it's a timeline, which also contains evolution, from text to pixels to polygons, pretty easy to understand.
Caught a couple of glimpses of Alley Cat, what an impossibly shitty game. It has been well over 20 years and I still cannot make heads or tails on how to play it. Fuck you Alley Cat.
Gamers are capable of doing some awesomely odd stuff for the sole purpose of saying they did it. A Drexel University professor is taking that concept and raising the bar. He's raising it 437 feet, to be exact.

I will never be able to answer the question "What's your first love: music or videogames?" So, I'm always happy when the two combine to make something rad. Such is the case with Tumblr Music History in GIFs.
