Remind bedridden children what they are missing with new NiGHTS game photo
     Previews

OK, let’s see a show of hands: Who is already getting sick of hearing about NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams on the Wii? Alright, very interesting. Now, who is sick of it primarily because of the 16,000 posts I have done about it in the last few days? Wow, I knew it.

Well, sorry to add to the overexposure, but some new information about the game was just revealed and, I swear, some of it is almost mildly interesting.

According to SEGA of Europe, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams will use the Wii’s Forecast Channel to change the scenery to match what the real world seasons are like outside. While this is nothing revolutionary, the fact that the designers are branching out and trying some different things is refreshing. But will this enhance/affect the gameplay at all aside from looking cool? Probably not. But it’s a unique addition to what is shaping up to be a promising game.

Still not convinced? Hit the jump for more gameplay info -- including the greatest/dirtiest sounding feature yet -- the dolphin mask!

[Thanks, Chris]

Here's all the new information:

-Three sets of Persona masks give the player new shape-shifting abilities and more ways to explore the world.

  • Dragon mask: Transforms NiGHTS into a huge dragon and makes him resistant to wind effects.
  • Dolphin mask: NiGHTS can change into a dolphin and explore underwater.
  • Rocket mask: NiGHTS takes the shape of a rocket and travels at supersonic speeds.

-There are seven fantastical dream worlds to explore and the unique environments of Nightopia introduce an extraordinary, magical world unlike any other.

-WiiConnect24: Exchange items with friends via the network and change the scenery according to real-world seasons using the Forecast Channel.

What do you think? Excited? Or did you already fall asleep halfway through reading this?

Finally, a reason to keep the Wii. I was just on the verge of selling mine, too.

I think its huge, it will be really cool. It will be neat if its raining then on the game it is also raining. It gives me a sense of a bridge between reality and fiction

The only news I wanna hear about this game is the one that says "Instant Wii classic 5/5 stars"

Sounds cool, but I haven't played the original NiGHTS, so forgive me for not jumping around like a crazy person.

So... what... with these masks, are they trying to combine NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon, and Ecco the Dolphin all into one game or something?

Hmm...

Actually, now that I've said it, I'm not sure whether that would be completely retarded or completely awesome...

Didn't some star wars gome from some console no one cares about do this? The n64 or dreamcast I think? Anyhow no one really cared about it.

Do they want a cookie for trying something new or something? I can't see how spending time on this will enhance the game experience. If it is raining outisde I want it to be fucking sunny in the game.

This is going Wii only so unless it get a 90+ score I wont bother. Now Sega be a good software company and do these sequels:

Panzer Dragoon
Virtual On
Shenmue
Fighters Megamix (the daytona car!)
Jet Set Radio (or at least a x360 patch)
Streets of Rage
Chu Chu rocket
Shinobi
Alexx Kid
And a sequel to that beat 'em up in the house of the dead universe (BUSUJIMA FTW!!! Greatest character EVAAAHHHH!)

BTW whats up with sega lately? They are making their best effort for their games to suck!! I Just played Armored Core 4 Trial and it was boring at best... wonky controls, inaudible sound effects... what a waste of my time. I fell sorry for the ppl who buy this crap. I Hope they kick out their designers and directors and bring some experienced ppl on the teams becasue unless that happens I want to mantain those games I just mentioned to be just a happy and fun memory...

Color me excited! (what?)

I also hope that it is an "instant Wii Classic." The Wii really needs some 3rd party support like this to get rid of all the people saying that the Wii has no games to play after launch and to erase this Nintendo stigma of poor 3rd party support. I'm rambling aren't I? SEGA!

It's not that the overabundance of posts are annoying so much as the fact that 90% of gamers have no idea the original even existed. Feels over-hyped already!

Obshaky: Armored Core was a already sucking years ago on the PSX, I think you should blame From Software (the makers of the game) and not Sega.

Xmas NiGHTS had seasonal weather run off the Saturns clock.

I noticed when posting in the forums that a lot of the D'toid folks weren't to arsed about this game. I was shocked personally... maybe it's an age thing.

Why would it need to go off the weather channel to tell what season it is? Just use the system's internal clock like AC already does. Real time weather would be interesting, if unnecessary. The nearest weather location I can configure on the Wii is 45 minutes away from here anyway.

@ Ndizi

why do you feel the need to even say something like "what do they want a cookie or something"

If they want to put something in the game that may help the experience a bit better than it is their own damn decision. God its people like you that down great news like this. I personally think this is really cool, if it is raining outside and its raining in the game then it may create a bridge between what is physically affecting my region and what is happening in the game. two thumbs up from me.
