You think this is bad acting? Try Silent Hill 3 from the HD collection (also the original Silent Hill or Resident Evil) or Two Worlds. This is just fine, hardly "cringe-worthy". I mean, what exactly do people hear with this "bad acting" that I don't? The only thing that stuck out as bad was the "The fugitive!" line. I get the dialogue complaint, but it's also fine. "Saturday morning cartoon" dialogue is good! We're not exactly supposed to be watching a movie here.
And the action got a good deal better once she started using that arm module to move things around and the melee combat was introduced. Yeah, it's like Batman: Arkham City with cyberpunk-ish powers and flair.... THAT'S A GOOD THING!
I think people are just really REALLY trying to look for things to complain about, whether it be because of Capcom or another reason.
@Oopsacalypse
"If your game revolves around infiltration, then why not show off exactly that?"
They did in the previous demo.
Actually the CQC was the highlight for me. The protagonist's animation scaling walls looked fine. I worry however whenever a new IP comes off bad because if it fails there's even less chance of either a sequel to refine the gameplay or new IP afterward.
Surely you thought that chase sequence with the aircraft could've been shorter? It appeared to me that the bullets did hit her and it did no damage. Frankly I don't like chase sequences in any game. (I've never played Uncharted so I can't compare) When a cinematic game's chase sequence feels like a parody of a chase sequence something went wrong.
I don't think the voices are bad acting at all. They're just grating because they remind me of Hydrophobia.
There are a lot of ways to show off new IP. A generic chase sequence with a boss that clearly has no ability to do damage is not one of them.
The chase did kinda go on a little longer most sequences like that. And it wasn't as good as Uncharted 2's version of it, but it still seems to be intense during actual play. Those moving/opening/closing platforms and gates could make the platforming in later sections pretty interesting.
The gameplay looks fun and kind of like a uncharted. Combat looks too easy enemies didn't put up much of a fight.
Graphics look good to me.
Voice acting is a bit cheesy but I don't mind that. Definitely on my radar now.
personally I think this looks a little too generic. Its like it was designed by a focus group
I don't know why you made the comparison to Arkham City when there is very little similar between the two. Moving objects around the game world with a device has been around a lot longer than Arkham City, and the combat looks more like a janky Assassins Creed than anything. There didn't seem to be any timing involved at all. Just mash, mash, mash, and then a QTE that resulted in the same face-exploding animation playing out every time.
You're getting overly defensive and insulting peoples opinions by saying they are mindlessly bashing the game for no reason. People have different opinions about quality. You don't mind the b-movie voice acting, the stiff movement, the button mashing fighting, and the generic and overly-long chase sequence, and other people do mind it. That doesn't mean they're haters. They just expect a different level of quality than you do.
the opening quote soured me to this before i even saw the gameplay, but it certainly gave me an idea as to the mindset of the writers - which is that they are willing to invite direct comparison between one of the finest minds in all of history and themselves.
i think "obnoxious" describes the footage quite well, and although it lookd quite competent in some areas, watch dogs makes this look like a joke in comparison.
I like the chase scene and the script, meh it's a video game it's supposed to be unrealistic, lowbrow and cliche just like an action movie. "The hunter becomes the hunted" so cheesy it's great!
Voice acting isn't that bad it's ok, and in Japanese VO standards its quite good
The animation does look wierd, she looks like shes walking on her toes, but if you look you can see is wearing heels. TBH I won't beable to tell how it plays until I have a pad in my hand.
- Interesting ideas in an interesting world w/ a story that might not have been done a billion time
- It has action, but she doesn't shoot all the time, psy-hacking and take down moves seem to be more dominant.
- From the two videos you see there is action, stealth, and then just mini-games...so there is some variety of play.
Cons:
- The dialogue sounds stale and melodramatic nobody speaks French (or even a French accent) in Neo-Paris. Really?
- The animation is B-Rate. Not a deal killer at all if the game supplies a unique experience, but this is not a AAA title.
- The UI is horrible and invasive to the game play. This game should have minimal UI and it should be more in the background. This sort of in your face UI design is from 2005, not 2013. (I'm hoping you cna turn off much or the UI.)
Here is my advice, when you buy the game REMEMBER to turn the langue to French to get the original voice actress...see if that is less annoying with French voice w/ subtitles. See if you can turn down or off the UI.
