In a discussion between IGN and Remedy regarding what's next for Alan Wake, head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen went all out in revealing his desire to continue working with Bright Falls' odd mythos.
First up, downloadable content. Microsoft "are throwing the idea around of more episodes," says Hakkinen, "but you know the size of our studio. We're a small team. But yeah, Microsoft are interested in more episodes. Where we're sitting right now is we'll see how these [first two add-ons] go."
Remedy has not been shy in saying DLC will bridge the gap between a potential sequel. So, we're getting a follow-up game then, right?
"We're happy with the partnership and they're happy with the game," Hakkinen puts it. "I don't see any reason why we wouldn't continue with Microsoft and why we wouldn't renew the IP ... we definitely want a sequel of course." As do I! Anyone else with me on this?

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
This was a system seller for MS.
2nd playthrough is so rewarding with all the extra plot details you pick up on. Can't wait for the DLC!
I do want a sequel really badly though. I highly enjoyed the Max Payne-like self-dialogues and had a blast playing the game even though it got kinda repetitve near the end.
Also, it's really fun making fun of the lip-sync with friends while you play.
The game was a financial failure. Had to be. You don't spend 5 or 6 years making a game and then somehow make a profit on it when it fails to sell half a million copies.
BOOSH!
Seriously, though, Alan Wake is fucking phenomenal, and if you didn't buy it, you're part of the problem. Bury yourself 6 feet under now.
Well, it is possible that word of mouth and secondary sales of the game could bolster the demand and thus lead to better sales for the sequel.
Not to mention, stranger things have happened. Like Darksiders having a sequel announced. Not only did it sell poorly, it wasn't even a good game.
Microsoft has spent more money promoting Wii-like party games for Kinect than on a game that could easily be a system seller...if people knew about it. I have had 4 or 5 of my friends on Xbox Live ask me what the hell I was playing when they noticed Alan Wake on my Box. Once I told them the premise for the game, all of them wanted to play it. Remedy did a fine job crafting a stellar game experience, time for you to live up to your end of the deal, Microsoft.
Alan Wake is a great game that wasn't pushed enough. Still, the fact that they are talking about a sequel, despite slow sales of the first, has me quite the happy camper.
If I could pre-order Alan Wake Season 2 tomorrow, I would.
"Its my flaming eye if Mordor"....that is all.
They screwed Remedy. I bet the same thing will happen with Ruffian with Crackdown 2.
Microsoft's marketing used to be on top of shit, but they've bee failing lately.
@seventhevening: As much as that game ripped off so many other games, it did a lot of things right, and I can honestly say I enjoyed Darksiders much more than Alan Wake. That sequel can't come soon enough.
Seriously.....
Oh yea and *cough* BRING THIS TO PC ALREADY *cough*
