Remedy really wants to make an Alan Wake sequel photo

In a discussion between IGN and Remedy regarding what's next for Alan Wake, head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen went all out in revealing his desire to continue working with Bright Falls' odd mythos.

First up, downloadable content. Microsoft "are throwing the idea around of more episodes," says Hakkinen, "but you know the size of our studio. We're a small team. But yeah, Microsoft are interested in more episodes. Where we're sitting right now is we'll see how these [first two add-ons] go."

Remedy has not been shy in saying DLC will bridge the gap between a potential sequel. So, we're getting a follow-up game then, right?

"We're happy with the partnership and they're happy with the game," Hakkinen puts it. "I don't see any reason why we wouldn't continue with Microsoft and why we wouldn't renew the IP ... we definitely want a sequel of course." As do I! Anyone else with me on this?

Alan Wake is one of my favorite games of all time! "It's not a lake, It's an ocean!!!" We have to get more Bright Falls!

Hell to the yes, I'm with you. A lot of people got bored of the combat fast, but I never did. Keep giving me the awesome music and creepy atmosphere, and I'm sold.

I'd totally be open to an Alan Wake Season 2. Getting into the plot of this game really was a lot like watching a TV drama. You start off and the show is relatively boring because you don't know shit anybody any of the characters, but by the end of the first season, awesome stuff happens, and you have to know what happens next.

I will gladly buy a sequal!

This was a system seller for MS.

Check out their forums. It seems like someone's picked up on the fact they've been hiring for a new project. I'd love a sequel and it seems like something's happening, but whether or not its Alan Wake 2 remains to be seen (might be for The Writer DLC). Sadly, those recent sales figures really didn't inspire me with much confidence despite my love of the game.

And if they could get a song on the soundtrack creepier than Roy Orbison's "In Dreams," I'd be impressed. Seriously, what is up with that song? It's so ironically sinister.

So we should see this about half way through the next gen consoles life cycle?

I fully support a sequel. I still have a hell of a lot of questions.

Yes, please! I've been putting RDR down lately from boredom to do my 2nd playthrough of Alan Wake. Don't think sandbox games are my thing anymore, haven't been super into one since maybe San Andreas or Godfather Blackhand Edition on the Wii.

2nd playthrough is so rewarding with all the extra plot details you pick up on. Can't wait for the DLC!

You know what they should release first? Take a wild guess.

I do want a sequel really badly though. I highly enjoyed the Max Payne-like self-dialogues and had a blast playing the game even though it got kinda repetitve near the end.

A sequel? no problem, I've got 5 years to blow. Let it rip Remedy!

I can't effectively put into words how hard I would buy a sequel to this. Alan Wake is one of my favorite psychological horror games, and that's saying a lot for me.

Also, it's really fun making fun of the lip-sync with friends while you play.

We'd all love a sequel, problem is nobody else would care.

The game was a financial failure. Had to be. You don't spend 5 or 6 years making a game and then somehow make a profit on it when it fails to sell half a million copies.

I'd love a sequel as well...Too bad everyone decided to buy Red Dead Redemption instead of Alan Wake.

Just checked, the game has sold 475,000 copies worldwide in about a month. I suppose MS could hope for better results next time but I doubt it.

Now Remedy knows what it's like to be a PS3 exclusive.

BOOSH!

Seriously, though, Alan Wake is fucking phenomenal, and if you didn't buy it, you're part of the problem. Bury yourself 6 feet under now.

@Eternaldeathslayer

Well, it is possible that word of mouth and secondary sales of the game could bolster the demand and thus lead to better sales for the sequel.

Not to mention, stranger things have happened. Like Darksiders having a sequel announced. Not only did it sell poorly, it wasn't even a good game.

I didnt even give a shit about Red Dead, but apparently Rockstar did because they ADVERTISED IT!

Microsoft has spent more money promoting Wii-like party games for Kinect than on a game that could easily be a system seller...if people knew about it. I have had 4 or 5 of my friends on Xbox Live ask me what the hell I was playing when they noticed Alan Wake on my Box. Once I told them the premise for the game, all of them wanted to play it. Remedy did a fine job crafting a stellar game experience, time for you to live up to your end of the deal, Microsoft.

Alan Wake is a great game that wasn't pushed enough. Still, the fact that they are talking about a sequel, despite slow sales of the first, has me quite the happy camper.

I generally don't go for DLC and am skeptical of sequels, but I'm all in for more Alan Wake. The gameplay was good, if a bit repetitive, but it had one of the best written and best told stories of any mainstream video game I have ever played.

If I could pre-order Alan Wake Season 2 tomorrow, I would.

"Its my flaming eye if Mordor"....that is all.

@nanowerx I agree completely. Good exclusives don't grow on trees and Microsoft really left Remedy and Alan Wake out to dry.

I also agree with nanowerx. How does Microsoft intend to sell a game when they don't advertise it?

They screwed Remedy. I bet the same thing will happen with Ruffian with Crackdown 2.

Microsoft's marketing used to be on top of shit, but they've bee failing lately.

Alan Wake is one of the main reasons I'm glad to have a Gamefly account, because I would not have ever shelled out full price for this game. The game had it's moments, especially the Bright Falls segments. But seriously, the gameplay became way to repetitive too quickly, the thought of fighting a giant black fog monster didn't appeal to me at all, and there was barely any character development for anyone else that was along with you. I got a better gaming experience overall out of Deadly Premonition, which I thought wasn't going to be shit compared to this game. I fully support a sequel if they drastically improve on a number of things, but Alan Wake as far as I'm concerned was just not fun. After being in development for so many years, I expected longer than a 6-7 hour gaming experience...

@seventhevening: As much as that game ripped off so many other games, it did a lot of things right, and I can honestly say I enjoyed Darksiders much more than Alan Wake. That sequel can't come soon enough.

I just finished this game last night and loved it. I will admit that I was expecting a bit more from it considering its been in development for years. Some portions of the game were clunky too but the presentation and story were top notch. I'm glad there are still companies like Remedy that put a heavy focus on story development. Also...the ending confused the crap out of me and I'd like to think I have a good understanding of most things. All the more reason to replay!

Oh yea and *cough* BRING THIS TO PC ALREADY *cough*
