Alan Wake doesn't have an ending yet. In fact, Remedy doesn't even know how the game will end. Apparently, this is still to be decided, and the developer expects the story to change between now and May.
"We really feel there needs to be a satisfying conclusion," says writer Sam Lake. "But at the same time, it needs to end in kind of a cliffhanger and we need to open doors for a larger story beyond this one.
"How Alan Wake as a whole will end? We have ideas and have mapped out the storyline quite far, but time will tell. I'm sure it will live a life of its own and things will change along the way. We certainly would like to do more, but ultimately if people want more, they will get more."
So let me get this straight ... Alan Wake has been in development for at least five years and they don't have any idea how it will even end? I wonder what these guys have been doing for the past half a decade.

It speaks of a lack of direction early on; less focus than a very refined experience would require.
Similar to how FFXIII's large amount of unused assets by the way of levels and art and monsters says something similar about that game. I'm worried Alan Wake will end up having a very shaky narrative because of this.
2. PC version canned.
3. Ending changed to make it sequel compatible.
4. ?
5. Profit.

Calvin : "Last-minute panic."
Oh wait so... this will be the first game of a series?
Alan Wake, if you can pull up your lanuch console/Windows Vista hype era memory logs, was supposed to be the first of a series. The plan was always each day within Alan Wale would essentially be an "episode" (not that the game would be episodic but that the layout of progression would be like episodes of tv). I think they referenced 24 multiple times. And then each new game would be like a new season. Alan Wake was always not only a series but was also taunted as having a big cliffhanger ending much like when the season of a major show ends.
The longivity of this games development plus the lack of info on it over the last couple years has really fucked with people's grasp of what they're trying to accomplish.
Bargain Bin.
Due to development hell.
But i won't be surprised if they did decide to change some plans and story because of a long development.
And i won't be actually surprised if the next "season" of the series will come out soon after the first one. Remedy developed the first Max Payne, which i still consider the best tps to date, for almost 5 years and then released a sequel in one and a half.
Did you read the quotes? I would say that this seems to be in reference to the first game: "We really feel there needs to be a satisfying conclusion," says writer Sam Lake. "But at the same time, it needs to end in kind of a cliffhanger and we need to open doors for a larger story beyond this one." I could be wrong though.
Nice jacket though.
not actually. i mentioned vista/higher exclusivity for PC release (it was that "halo2 and shadowrun only for vista because everyone apparently wants them so bad!"). they did plan it to be a multiplatform, but weren't sure what platforms will it be released on except for PC. later it was planned as a PC/360/PS3 game. then MS decided to publish the game and eventually it became a 360 exclusive
PC version was supposed to be "superior" in some ways (not surprisingly) and they wanted to take the most of x64, multi-cpu, dx10 or higher combo. Months before it was decided that the game is only for 360 there was a post on the game's blog on how they managed to optimize the game for quad-core users.
And mind you, A.Wake still may be released on PC eventually. No one knows if its timed or permanent exclusivity for 360
Not good.
Not good.
I assume they at least knew what the hell they were doing back then...
