Relic talks Dawn of War II DRM, says no to 'annoying' authentication photo

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II is shaping up to be another face-rockingly solid entry in the acclaimed real-time strategy series, but as evidenced by past debacles, a game is only as good as the DRM attached to it.

During an interview with VideoGamer, associate producer for Dawn of War II Jeff Lydell offered encouraging words about Relic's search for DRM saying, "We want [consumers] to be able to play it with their friends, and most importantly we want any authentication to not be annoying or a detriment to the experience."

As to what extent the potential Dawn of War II DRM will limit the number of times you can install the game, Lydell said that to his knowledge, there won't be an installation limit. Period.

He concluded by saying, "When you have a multiplayer component or content that can be distributed through online there's an incentive to be a licensed user," which I think many of the deviants in the audience cannot help but agree with.

Okay, the developers and publishers are finally taking the hint. This is great news.

Now it's time for all the asshole pirates to show a little love the other way around and go buy this game, and a few others, with little/no DRM. I know it'll be painful, but it'd sure a big step forward.

Relic knows better. Now, if another developer joins in that's known NOT care about this issue, then I'll throw a party.

Can't wait for DoWII :D

I'd be glad for a decent authentification. Through the four years I've owned DoW and it's expansions I've installed it probably 7+ times as I keep uninstalling and then finding people who want to play it again. So, I'd hate to run into a numbered install.
