Relax your wallets this holiday: Mercenaries 2 falls into 2008 photo

To those who were eager to blow the crap out of a Venezuelan porta-potty with a surgical bomb this Holiday season -- sorry!

According to UK videogame Web site Total Video Games, Electronic Arts have confirmed that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames will miss the originally planned Holiday 2007 release. The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 2 title is now slated to hit shelves next year; retailer GameStop currently lists the title for an April 2008 release.

There are a lot of reasons why we could be seeing a shift in the title's release date, the least of which is the already cluttered Holiday season (I think just Halo 3 should qualify as "cluttered"). Or maybe the game simply wasn't ready to ship. But Pandemic has been developing Mercenaries 2 with the PS3 as the game's lead SKU, so feel free to blame the Xbox 360 for the delay. That makes for a better story, right?

[Thanks, Justin!]

Man, i looks like Halo 3 and Mass Effect's shoulders have just become a little broader. They're going to make up much of my fall/winter gaming now that Mercs. 2 in addition to GTA 4 are cancelled.

That a maybe a Bioshock play through. Thank goodness for exclusive titles I guess.

I'm almost glad for delays considering the rediculous amount of releases this holiday season. I can't buy the all! Hopefully prices may drop on some of them by the time I can get to them.

The game industry has declared war on my wallet, this wasn't really on my radar though, maybe I was missing out. Is it like Star Wars Battlefront... in the Tropics and no lasers going pew pew?

yeah, my "must buy" listed started at like 10 games this summer and has dwindled to 3 since I laready have Bioshock.

Although I was hoping to have new a game per month. At least September and November are covered. I'm hoping CC continues offering new games at $10 discount on the week they are released. With the Darkness and Bioshock I already saved $20. I doubt they'll do it with Halo though since its the one game you can pre-order. Maybe Mass Efect.

Wow. Did you really just blame development for the 360 as the reason for this title being delayed? {enter MS ninjas} I didn't think so.

Damn, this was gonna be my open-world game this holiday in lieu of GTAIV. Sigh. Guess I'll hafta settle for Assassin's Creed. Hahaha, I say settle like that's a bad thing.

Thank Gord. My credit card is already due to take a critical hit this season. I'm happy to save this sucker for the game drought that's bound to hit in the middle of next year.

GTA4, Mercenaries...It looks like there will be a lot of sandboxing in early 08

This is honestly what the term "sandboxing" makes me think of.
