Relax, Resident Evil 5's Mercenaries mode is playable online photo

IGN is now reporting that Mercenaries mode, unlocked in Resident Evil 5 after completion, will indeed be playable over Xbox LIVE.

The clarification comes after IGN posted their review of the title, lamenting openly that the mode didn't support Xbox LIVE play. The Internet exploded. How could they make this mistake? Are they dirty liars, and should we never trust IGN's reviews again?

Not quite. You see, the review code Capcom sent out to press simply doesn't have an online option for Mercenaries mode. I can confirm this; I complete the game for our review a few nights ago, and noticed the lack of the feature myself. But as anyone who has a retail copy of the game can confirm (our own Chad Concelmo included), there's already a game update available that adds the feature. So everyone calm down.

If you haven't already acquired a copy through whatever means necessary, check back on Thursday for our full review of Resident Evil 5.

Mercenaries eh? Does this mean that we can start putting bounties on other players? If zombies paid mercenaries to kill Chris Redfield and his allies, would you take up the offer?

Do we have confirmation of PSN? I'm guessing if it is on one its on the other, but there's always the chance that microsoft payed them off to shut out half the game's audience.

I reported on this a few days ago on my site. I felt like I had to because literally everyone was freaking out about no online, and there were 0 actual news stories on it, in fact, being confirmed, just random forum posts.

Thanks for shedding some light on this for an even bigger community!

I wonder if it's going to be like CoD:WaW where they patched in the ability to play Nazi Zombies (which is like Mercenaries mode in RE5, or Survival Mode in L4D, or Horde in GOW2, etc...) right away over Xbox Live because everyone bitches about having to play singleplayer to unlock it first.
