This is a little glimpse of what the New Xbox Experience could well have become, and as you can see, everything looks like it was coated with a thin layer of semen. Or maybe that's just how I choose to see things.
Design firm Gridplane worked on these when NXE was in its early phases. Aesthetically, it looks a bit bleak, but it seems like navigation might have been a little more intuitive than the current "visuals-over-usability" focus of the official NXE.
"The time was spent exploring many ways that a new menu system could allow users to browse and navigate game libraries, music, movies and TV shows," explains Gridplane. "Oh, and play games too."
Something tells me that the videogame aspect was an afterthought with Microsoft just as much as that sentence jokingly alludes. Gridplane also claims it was working on a "an immersive 3D environment," where the Xbox Live community could come together to interact with their games. No idea where they got that idea from.
Anyway, an interesting little look at what never was.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That's fscking awesome! I'm going to definitely remember that one and use it against the wife when necessary.
Leave that shit for 2001.
