Heartbroken by the delay of the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, I fired an e-mail over to Epic's Mark Rein to see just what was up. Not long after I hit send, Rein replied, partially with the "As a public company..." spiel he dropped on the Epic forums earlier today. But there's sunshine through the rain says, uh ... Rein.
"In addition, there is some good news," he says, "as a little extra time in development means now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version, whereas we previous expected to ship fewer maps on [the] console."
Well that is good news, isn't it? And for those of you with PCs powerful enough to launch nuclear missiles and run Unreal Tournament 3, Rein says a downloadable PC demo will be available before retail release (which still stands for November).
I'll be heading to Epic next week to get my hands dirty with both versions of the game, so I'll see if I can't dig up any more information ... or at least take a lot of pictures of Mark Rein doing stuff. I feel like I'm doing a Google image search for him way too often.
<3 UT .. will get it for the pc, since i want to pay 600€ for a graphic card and not for a gay-console ;)
...
UT3 better be the best thing in the world...
I would think it would be nice if they could add something unique to the PS3 version to compensate for the wait rather then simply bringing it to par of the PC map wise?
UT better be the best thing in the world, because Halo 3 is doing a damn good job in it's absence.
i didnt like ut2004 much, but being a graphics whore i think ill like this one no matter what... so pretty! :)
Because the ps3 version will have mouse & keyboard controls and the game is optimized for the system. No Tweaking, hardware upgrades necessary to get the game up and running smoothly. Granted the ps3 is relatively expensive, but $500 is still a good deal less than a gaming rig.

They said that it would have a few less maps. that's why.
I don’t know...I suppose this is good news. But as far as I’m concerned, they shouldn’t have been thinking of shipping the console version with less maps in the first place. As a PS3 owner, I’m tired of getting shafted when compared to the 360 versions of games (ex: delayed releases for skate and Stranglehold ; worse graphics/frame rate in EA Sports titles)...and this, while they’re taking time to remedy the situation, shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place.
