Reggie says big Wii 'surprise' coming in September photo

In a recent interview on GameHead, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime teased an upcoming "surprise" for Wii owners. Using the same breath he used to talk about the upcoming "Check Mii Out Channel" like it's something you should care about, he reveals that something else is slated for the very near future.

"The surprise is coming," he teased, "by the end of September."

Reggie thinks we'll like this surprise, but I'm not so sure. We're talking about the company whose idea of a cool reveal at E3 was a "six-minute abs" videogame ... don't even get me started.

If you were to wake up to find your Wii's disc tray gently glowing, what kind of surprise would you like to find lurking inside?

I just pictured Reggie saying that, tittering gleefully and then covering his mouth with his hands coyly as he looked side to side.

A surprise back at E3 would have been nice too. I wouldn't be shocked if the WiiWare channel is launched in September with a handful of titles.

Sonic in brawl sounds likely, but maybe it's just them formally announcing brawl will be online.

BOOO besides snake keep 3rd party characters out of smash brothers. One is enough

maybe it'll be that they are getting rid of friend codes and setting up something more like live.

After buying and beating Prime 3 I probably won't turn on my Wii again until December when Smash Bros comes out, so I guess I'll get my surprise a few months late.

-online VC support
-telling me smash bros will be online, and that the implementation won't suck
-hell any online capabilities that don't suck!

I'm betting on some sort of exclusive that nobody saw coming. Maybe FFXIII or a new GTA or a new Castlevania ... something along those lines.

A hard drive seems inevitable, but it doesn't seem like Nintendo's style to fiddle with the hardware only a year into the cycle.

Perhaps friend codes are going bye-bye? That would be nice.

What would I like as the surprise? Let's see... Announce Animal Crossing for the Wii or a new DS Metroid title that picks up where Fusion left off. That's what I'd want.

What we'll get? Probably "Wii Sports 2".

The best thing they could offer is a firmware update to support the lower end of the HD spectrum... 720p.. Contrary to popular belief, the hardware can support it... the main limitation is the amount of memory alloted for textures.

Compression is a hell of a drug... They should try it!

That would be a surprice. I lame surprise, but a surprise nonetheless.

I hope it the news isn't anything related to the shallow new Mii channels.
