Reggie: New games will boost hardware sales photo

Despite the NPD fallout and the current slowdown of Wii sales, stroganoff sensation and Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime believes the situation will improve, claiming that some big upcoming releases will keep Nintendo on top.

According to the ravioli rogue, "a number of important new titles" for the Wii and DS loom on the horizon, allowing his company to remain "confident that we'll continue to see very strong hardware sales behind those launch titles." Looks like he'll have a few whoppers for us in the near future. Double whoppers. With cheese.

Yesterday, it was rumored that a big Nintendo release would be out in time for Christmas, prompting rudderless speculation as to what it might be. While some believe that it could be some amazing "core" title that will reignite hope and love in the jaded old-school Nintendo masses, I can't shake the feeling that we're about to bear witness to the announcement of Wii Fit 2: Wii Fitter.

Mario & Luigi 3? I dunno how big the series has been here, but they should hype the hell out of it. Give us a wacky oldschool-style commercial with stupid music and, I dunno... people jumping around while riding piggyback! Mario has never been about Serious Business, and the awesome commercials used to reflect this. Thirty seconds of some celebrity enjoying the game while making small talk with their significant other just won't do for something like this.

I'm getting ahead of myself, though. We don't even know what the game is yet. (Though the timing would be about right for M&L3, given that it just came out in Japan not too long ago.)

Nintendo's big IP letdown is found in summary with:

DK Jungle Bongo Bang redux instead of a true Donkey Kong game.

I'm pretty pissed at Nintendo this year. Punchout!! is looking potentially worse and worse with every "impression" news post I read, and The Conduit is looking more and more like a "if you only own a Wii you will enjoy this, otherwise play Killzone or Halo" FPS game.

All I have left really is Cave Story (which I can play now), and Little King's Story.

i hope they can release more than one good game with substance this year because the wii don't have enough great software to support it. you can sell a billion wii's but with only 8 good games that people would buy developers are iffy about making wii games that may just get lost in the clutterware of the shelf.

As a money making business theres no reason for Nintendo to make the games we want.

Although we like to think the console makers are our friends, profit is their main priority.

[if Mario galaxy ever makes more profit than wii fit, I'l eat my hat]

I'd say I wish it was Pilotwings, but I'm sure they'd turn it into a casual Wii Sports package type of fapfest you can't lose now, and take all the physics and fun out of the N64 one.

"Despite the NPD fallout and the current slowdown of Wii sales"

Wait, what? The current slowdown of Wii sales. Since when is selling over 600,000 units a month considered a slowdown? Since when is being the #1 selling system of that month considered a slowdown? If that's considered a slowdown, then I would love to know what selling almost half that, or even less then half of that amount is considered? Oh yeah, its called the 360, and PS3. So what are they considered to be now stopped, and dead in their tracks?

Since the hardware is down year over year. Last March, Wii sales were at 721K. This year, 601K. In fact, all hardware is down YoY except the 360 which went up to 330K from 262K.

Well the Wii and DSi does print money after all. I would be surprised if people with money DIDN'T spend their money on a Nintendo product.

I look forward to their next big announcements, watching the Nintendo defenders keep up the good fight and the ones that give up is just endlessly entertaining.

Oh Nintendo, you are nothing more than a very, very joke to me now :)

The only thing that would be interest me is a true new IP, preferably rated T or M.

I don't know how some of you people can get excited for yet another Zelda game.

nintendo needs to follow the succesful strategy with the gamecube: make nintendo exclusives that are less like stupid party games: mario, zelda, hell even pokemon. Advertize and hype them. target GAMERS, not six year old kids, because those six year olds will want these games even more.

yes nintendo they have bullshit detectors.

Trust me, A new mario will be much more succesful than Gardening Mama 2.
