Reggie Fils-Aime says the Wii software issue will be over in three weeks photo

Reggie Fils-Aime is such a charmer. I bet this man has talked his way into the pants of more women than James Bond. Then again, it's all about what you want to hear. Reggie's most recent bold statement was in regards to the Wii software issues, which alongside the predicted Wii shortage for this Holiday season, didn't look so good. Now it seems that has been all tidied up according to ol' Reg:

"As every publisher talks about shifting over to Wii its creating this crush of production right now at our factories for software," Fils-Aime said at a BMO Capital Markets conference.

He sounded a note of assurance, saying the problem was "very short-term." "What we've done is to ramp that capacity up and work with the publishers to ensure that their best titles get into the marketplace and [they] have a productive holiday."

Well, well. It's not a surprise that Ninty has managed to pull this change from their posterior, but at the same time the teeter-totter effect of all these announcements has me feeling like a chicken with its head cut off. Not that I was aggro about the software issue personally, but frankly I do hope it's the last of the issues, because the sound of children crying on Christmas morning is not pretty.

I have to say, Reggie is really growing on me. And while a lot of people at Dtoid think he comes across as a pompous ass (which he does), pompous asses are what Wall Street and investors want to hear. I think people are missing that Reggie isn’t there to speak to the gamers; probably like 95% of people who own Wiis have no idea who he is. He’s there to speak to people with lots of money. He’s speaking their language, and he's doing an excellent job of it.

At the very least, it's entertaining.

From what I understood, this is regarding software production, not hardware production i.e. pressing DVDs and whatnot.

are Oni and I the only ones who actually read the statement? He's saying they're producing a lot of *software*. consoles are hardware, people.

i was thinking the same thing smoger, so i just assumed that the Wii supply part was said in a different part of the conversation

Lulz, my bad. I read the story this morning right when I got into work, and I guess I unconsciously replaced software with hardware since I had just read a story about Wiis being sold out everywhere the night before.

Sorry Colette!

I've still not seen a wii on a storeshelf.

Aye, this does seem to be purely software related. The only mention of systems is the obligatory dig at sony at the end. Even if nintendo have enough wiis for everyone on the planet, they're not about to say that. Making things hard to get is like putting a coat of heroin encrusted solid gold boobies on them. The less available wiis are, the more joetard public will want one.

If what Reggie says is true then Ninty has been sitting on a shitload of Wii all year cause even a year past launch it's nearly impossible to find a Wii.

Looking at it's sales numbers I dont know how any child can not have a Wii by now

Sorry, but Oni and smoger are right. This is about software. Pressing DVDs and the like. Not that big of a deal. Don't worry Collete, as your always brilliant writing made reading this worth my time. Still, this is like two mistakes in one day. First they posted the $400 80GB Ps3, which was wrong, then this is about software, not hardware. So, I'm quite confident that many children will still be crying come Christmas. Should have pre-ordered, like my parents did last year. Thanks anyway.

Fake shortage, stores hold them until they are advertised... but I finally started seeing them around here a lot in the past month.

Oh wait, the headline says software. Sorry, my mistake. LoL. Anyway, who cares? I've never encountered a problem finding Wii Games, as the shelf is full of them at Best Buy. All of them, no less. Is this just Reggie trying to make stupid people run out and buy some games before they run out? Seriously, who ever heard of a software shortage problem?

So people will be able to find Wii's now?

Hooray, now all we need are games.

Yeah, I was in Best Buy the other day, and some guy was asking an employee about them, since apparently they still sell-out almost immediately.

So, there's like no gorram way I'm going to get a Wii this year, is there? I won't have any cash to spend 'til either late November or Mid December, depending on how my cheques come in. I was hoping I'd be able to find one in a store by then, but it now seems even if I do, good luck finding any of the games I want. >.>

Even if he is Nintendo PR, I still think Reggie is awesome. Too bad that I really am still doubting that Nintendo can deliver.

I see Wii's all the time. I've seen a used one in a game store and there were a couple at Target when I was there a little while ago. I just can't afford one. Also I didn't know there was an issue with software... other than Zack and Wiki. Somehow I don't think they're pressing more of that =<.

What software is in short demand? I haven't seen any games sold out...they really should be focusing on hardware...seeing as I haven't seen ONE console in a store since launch. I'm trying to buy one for my nephew but it's still scarce.

Every store I visit has a dozen copies of each game and 50 controllers. Imagine how many Wiis they could make if they didn't overproduce the parts that aren't selling.
