Red Steel 2 will have cowboys and swords photo

If you have a Wii and a desire to play a game that features a sword-wielding cowboy, then Ubisoft has the game for you. It’s called Red Steel 2. And yeah, war has changed.

The June issue of Nintendo Power has the scoop on the game’s apparent overhaul. We haven’t seen the magazine yet, but Joystiq managed to pull two interesting details (and images) from it. The first is the obvious Wild West flair Ubisoft is shooting for.

The other scrap of information is the confirmation of MotionPlus support, which is something that The Conduit guys shied from when crafting their first-person shooter. Apparently, Ubisoft thinks MotionPlus makes the sword action much more realistic. Well, as realistic as cowboy sword fighting can get.

I didn't really peg Scott as a cowboy type, unless this is a completely new player character.

Yes, I actually played (and own) the first Red Steel! >P But maybe got the player character's name wrong. XD

The main characters name wasn't scot, Doomsday Forte, it was SCOTOH SAHN. Obviously. Thats how everyone else said his name.

I think I was the only person who dug the first game.

I dug it too. The sword fighting more than the shooting.

It felt a lot more solid to me.

Hey, I borrowed Red Steel from a Co-worker, finished it and definitely dug!

That last moment with the old due before you went into the final mission? That was really pretty epic!

I got into the swordplay, despite the reality that it wasn't 1:1

I'm really looking forward to this one.

I couldn't get into the original. It just felt flat and tired.

WiiMotion plus could fix that, as could a change of locale, but we'll see.

I played the first game and literally twenty seconds in I had had enough.

There really is no excuse for this game to be as poor as the original. All Ubisoft has to do is copy the IR achievements of other companies.

The sword fighting in the original game was an absolute abomination. If they can make MotionPlus work with this and it actually ends up being 1:1, then I'm sold, but God, it'd better not be like the first one.

After the frustration I felt with the first one. I'll be renting this one first.

Nothing against the Wii at all, but I remember my friend bought one on launch day, and we were literally crying laughing about how awful this game was.

We made fun of him for buying the Wii all day long. Red Steel was the only game he could afford for 2 months!

The ties between westerns and samurai films are older than old, so I can see where they get that. We'll have to see how it works out, but this actually makes me more interested in the game.

@Matt: I just remembered the second Kill Bill film. No wonder...

@garison: Hey, I liked RS1 too! ;_; Sure, it was an early attempt at FPS controls that MP3 later clinched, and you could win the sword fights by flailing hard, but it wasn't really that bad a game, and it gets points for not being a minigame compilation or movie tie-in. =P

RS1 was disapointing, by that I mean god awful. I hope the dev gets their shit together and make Red Steel 2 a hopefully better game.

I thought the first game was okay for one of the first wave of Wii games, just with bugs that would sometimes leave enemies standing rigid on one or two levels...

A franchise reboot after just one game? Ubisoft, you have totally exceeded my expectations...conceptually. I'm pretty intruiged by this. I actually thought Red Steel did some novel things with motion. M+ and the new setting makes me salivate to be honest, hopefully they pull off the style and story, they sure had a lot of feedback to work off of......
