Red Steel 2 might not be hitting shelves for awhile, but it's never too early to start learning how to play.
In this new video, called "Wanna Play?", shows what you'll need to do in order to in order to slice, stab, and strike. Not surprising, considering the use of Wii MotionPlus, doing those things involves slicing, stabbing, and striking with the Wii Remote. Go figure.
The quality of the video isn't the best, but you get the idea, I think. Red Steel seemed like a bit of an experiment, and you have to hand it to Ubisoft for being the first out of the gate at the Wii's launch. But it wasn't perfect, and some would argue that it wasn't even "good." Can they make up for it with Red Steel 2?
I played the demo at E3 earlier this year, and I'll admit I'm not entirely sold. It could have been nearby interference from other Wii sensor bars and the show floor lights (like being a bad European disco), but the one-to-one actions weren't really as smooth as they're shown here. I hope it was the setting (or the result of an early build that needs tweaking), but Red Steel 2 (in concept at least) sounds like a lot of fun.
All the need now is some really HOT babe in this game.
A Motion Plus comes with this game.
Sidenote: Cool.
I've only recently learned that game existed! It sounds awesome. That game came up while a bunch of us were fapping about Bushido Blade. Those two games need to make a serious motion control comeback!
Anyone else see that or am I relay just going crazy?
Better controls. Better gameplay. Better graphics. Better story.
Good way to redeem yourself, Ubisoft.
I didn't notice, but its interesting you mention that.
I've read in another article that it really doesn't use the IR for the turning mechanic. So, instead of having the sensor need to pick up your turning motion, the Motion Plus is actually getting that data instead, which allegedly is supposed to be better.
Of course, the shooting is still IR, which makes sense...
ramble ramble ramble
Huh, that's neat. I did not know that about motion plus.
I took another look at the video and the demo guy is definitely holding his finger over the IR sensor in the "1 to 1" sword demo. For the rest of the game play he seems to hold it normally.
Does this mean that the swordplay is wholly dependent on motion plus or that the starting bit is all smoke and mirrors? I'd prefer to thin that it just doesn't need the IR sensor :D
And, yeah, it needs some blood. The game is called RED Steel for chrissakes.
The motion plus comes into play 1) For turning 2) for, I hope, getting your sword position/angle for a swing and at least 3) Detecting the strength of your hits: lazy motions register as weak, lazy hits. Its not 1:1, 24/7. Which appears to be a design choice rather than a usage limitation, from interviews I've seen.
Bottom line, no matter how rad the art style and graphics are the truth is that I am simply not sold on the gameplay. I need to hear more from folks and try it for myself.
