Red Steel 2: set in the desert, WiiMotion Plus support photo

The original Wii sword and gun game is making a comeback for the holiday season of 2009 with Ubisoft's announcement of Red Steel 2.

Set in a high-tech desert city, this Ubisoft Paris-devleoped game will use Nintendo's new add-on, the WiiMotion Plus. This will be Ubisoft's first title with support for the device. It is said that even your swing strength will be sensed, with the "emphasis on swinging, shooting and fun."

"Red Steel was a unique opportunity for Ubisoft to work in tandem with Nintendo to create a title exclusively for the launch of the Wii console," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing US at Ubisoft. "Red Steel 2 is another milestone for the company as it is the first Ubisoft title with full Wii MotionPlus integration.”

In case you already haven't heard, more Red Steel 2 details will be revealed in the June issue of Nintendo Power. For now, you can look at the only image they sent us today in our gallery below. It's a sword in the dirt. Great.

How do you think this will turn out? Is this something you're looking forward to?

Does it mean it will suck too?

Red Steel was such a disappointment. I couldn't care less about this.

The first game was so terrible it's almost like it didn't exist, so I'm willing to give this one a chance.

High tech samurai western, eh? Sounds potentially awesome. Yeah, the first one wasn't the greatest game ever, but it was not that bad. Multiplayer was decent fun, at the very least.

First one was average, buggy, but a good ride. Definitely looking forward to this one. Partly for the Wii Motion Pluss enhancement and partly for the setting.

According to NeoGAF, the game is rated Teen, so no blood and no dismemberment and probably no bullet or slash decals.

Also, the game has no multi-player what-so-ever. It's also cell-shaded, so I expect the environments to be pretty bland.

Serioulsy. What's the point of a sword fighting game call RED steel that has no blood or dismemberment? You might as well be using a foam bat for all intents and purposes.

Red Steel was a disappointment but it was a rushed project which resulted in a mediocre launch game.I did enjoy the music though.

I'm interested in the sequel with its new setting, potentially stylish graphics and MotionPlus should take care of any unresponsive controls for swordplay. Ubisoft, this is a chance to redeem yourself! Don't F it up.

A desert city, like las vegas? What I don't understand is how can this game fail? I mean it's for the Wii. THE FREAKING WII!!! People buy Wii games spontaenously! Is there not enough waggle?!

@lubczyk

Without blood or dismemberment, why, this game cannot possibly be hardcore! Oh no!

I hope they remove '2' from the title. I'd rather not be reminded that the first game ever existed.

This game might suck too much, since the first RS was full of promises and in the end, the game resulted in failure. I guess a demo version would satisfy me enough.
