Red Octane interested in Guitar Hero 'franchise compatibility' photo

When Red Octane and Neversoft announced that all Guitar Hero World Tour downloadable content would also work with the upcoming Guitar Hero 5, everyone's wallets cheered. But one thing they didn't mention to press at E3, as far as I knew, was the ability to transfer tracks from the World Tour disc to your hard drive for use in Guitar Hero 5.

According to Australian gaming site Gameplayer, the feature was announced at E3... but no one was paying attention. Or they heard it from an off-the-record source. Not entirely sure (I'm a sloppy, but decent, note taker), I followed up with Red Octane to get the scoop.

"Franchise compatibility is something we are interesting in and we are looking into," I was told by a representative for Red Octane, "but we do not have any details to share at this time."

So that means while it's not off the table for the future, the ability to rip songs from the World Tour disc to your hard drive hasn't been confirmed. Red Octane did reiterate that the World Tour downloadable content would be fully-compatible with Guitar Hero 5, "and will feature all of the game's upgrades and enhancements."

Would the ability to move your World Tour songs to your hard drive to play with your Guitar Hero 5 library nudge you in Activision's direction? Or has its yearly multi-game assault permanently turned you off?

I don't care either way about the WT compatibility. I was also not planning on picking up any more music games because after WT, as I got tired out from the genre, but then I saw the artist list for GH 5 and I just about creamed my pants.

That's a big bonus. As someone who's played both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, yet never owned either and is looking to buy one, this could nudge me towards GH.

the music game genre is saturating the market with crappy crappy frat boy games, MAN am i tired of this, i didn't know where they could go from beatles: rock band, but now there's dj hero. -_- great.

so after dj hero i'll deal with violin hero, didgeridoo hero, and flutophone hero, and THEN maybe this madness will end and stores can have room to stock QUALITY VIDEO GAMES...like wii fit plus -_-

I wish I could do this with every GH game. Since I'm looking into buying all of the discs in a bargain bin for cheap with minimal full-priced DLC purchases, I won't mind if I have to change the discs for new songs, but if they allow me to swap, then I'll be glad they finally got their heads out of their asses and made some reasonable decisions.

I'm already disgusted that they haven't already allowed you to import games instead of swapping that fuking disk! GH is dead to me

GH died in my heart a couple years ago and I can't imagine anything they could do at this point to win me back.

The last great game from GH was 3. I don't see any reason to get all excited over gaining the full GHWT setlist since there's only 4 or so songs I care for on it.

On a sidenote-), where the hell is my Sublime and Queen dlc that way I can sell off GHWT once and for all?

Rock Band ruined Guitar Hero for me :(. Although with no Rock Band 3 I might rent this one to see if I can still play it.

I would love to be able to export all the songs in world tour to GH5.... that would make the game a completly sure buy. And if the metallica/smash hits/ van halen tracks were exportable i would buy those, for now they are out of my list.

Rock band model has spoiled me and the fact that i chan have hundreds of songs in a single game is a big bonus.

I like several gameplay things of guitar hero, i just don't like the songs sorting and the multiple discs...

Guitar hero lost me at 3; I try each new one, but there are several design decisions that I find lacking, at best.

The charting in rock back feels more connected with the music and less hard for the sake of being hard. The hud in gh is hard to get information from. Star power sequences are too long, making it only useful for points if you've already mastered a song, not having those epic skin of your teeth moments.

I do like some of the songs they're getting, but every time I try it at a friend's house, I just remember why I don't like the experience.
