Ben PerLee and I were at a Red Faction: Guerrilla event earlier this week where we got some extensive hands-on time with the game's multiplayer offerings. We're under embargo so we can't say much about the game yet. I can say, however, that the multiplayer mode is extremely fun. Expect a preview from me tomorrow evening as well as an interview from Ben on the multiplayer.
Red Faction: Guerrilla is coming out June 2, but I don't think I can wait that long to play the game again. Thankfully, there's a multiplayer demo coming out to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next week on May 21. It wasn't revealed exactly what game modes will be in the demo, but we'll let you know as soon as we find out more.
In the mean time, be sure to check out our single-player preview and our video interview with Volition's Luke Schneider. Alternatively, you can go to wherever your father keeps his tools, take his sledgehammer, and use it to demolish your own house! It will feel exactly like playing the game ... more or less.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But in the game you can smash stuff with helicopters , rocket launchers , ostrichs ....
It did seem that way, if they would just recreate the awesome terrain destruction from the original I may be more inclined to purchase, digging myself a tunnel and shooting people with the rail gun was by far the most awesome multiplayer experience I had since goldeneye.
My one concern is lack of vatiety in envoirnments but if the game is fun I can live with it. Looking forward to the mp demo and the June release.
Wait did someone say you can pilot those helicopter type things? Sweet!
God that was satisfying.
Anyway, I'd like to check out the multiplayer. I spent a lot of time in the first game playing with friends and having preposterous explosives battles. Hopefully this one will deliver similar fun.
...
we took the tanker in the largest building and detonated it, completely gutted the structure. it didn't collapse however, so i went inside to place some more charges -- and suddenly a support collapsed followed by another 'til the entire buidling was ontop of me. i thought it was pretty cool.
oh, also throwing mines onto guards and watching them fail. fun stuff.
@D-Nez: however if no one likes the game mp doesn't work.
Not necessarily. I know quite a few people that couldn't stand KZ2 singleplayer but love the online. Unless of course you meant the gameplay in general, in which case, yes -- that's important.
Aww, thanks Volition, you shouldn't have!
My biggest concerns are variety in the missions and variety in the enviorments. The demo mission was fun starting with jacking the mech then switching to providing protection on route to destination. If the rest of the missions are varied and have multiple components that's great. I would get bored if it's like go kill this dude or blow up this building ad nauseum. as far as envoirnments I hope the different areas are distinct enough instead of the same buildings from Dust copypasta to the snow level etc. Otherwise looking forward to June for this.
Although I may go broke. Infamous is already proving to be a solid game and there's also prototype which may or may not be worth getting.
