Quantcast

As reported, Volition's next outing in its Red Faction universe will be Red Faction: Armageddon. Now, just about a week before E3, we get our first look at the game.

The trailer paints the world as one where humans that have colonized Mars have been pushed underground, learning to survive in once uninhabitable mines. As it turns out, humans aren't the only life on the Mars -- we see some Dead Space-y looking creatures rear their heads a few times in the trailer, which runs just over a minute. Good thing you'll have all of those mech suits to protect yourself with.

We see plenty of the series' trademark destruction in this video, as well. But if you look carefully, you'll notice a new ability around 40 seconds in: some sort of glove that seemingly rebuilds pieces of the environment. The teaser pegs the game for a March 2011 release; we'll have more for you come E3.

The reconstructor is not a new ability. It is a central part of multiplayer for Red Faction: Guerilla.

Um, I don't know. I can't say I'm all that excited by this trailer but I've yet to play a Red Faction game I didn't like. Each game made some big changes to the franchise so I guess changing the enemies to aliens this time isn't that big of a deal. Maybe I'll be as pleasantly surprised with this one as I was the last game. Hopefully.

So I guess the free roam is just gone now huh? Does the 360 even need another Halo-esque alien shooter? God people need to think outside the alien killer box.

The first game was fun but they really have to sort out the shooting this time around, in the last game it got the job done but it felt like a ps2 game with a next-gen mechanic (building destruction).

@fernando Rivera.

Yeah, but has the reconstructor ever been a glove?

@ Fernando Rivera:

It's a new ability in terms of single-player, narrative-driven gameplay.

This looks like all the greatness in Guerilla removed.

If it's open world underground, good. Otherwise nooooooezzzz. Red Faction: Guerrilla was absolutely solid and they should just refine that instead of going back to linear like RF1/2. Sigh, and they won't even have the terrain deformation like in the older games.

If I get to make my own tunnels/staircases/etc underground, I retract my worries about this game. Until then, I remain kind of sad.

Two things game devs love: Alien & nondescript white men.

This is kinda' like when I see a tranny that looks just like a woman. I get all confused. Especially in the pants.

Seriously though, this is Red Faction? Since when were aliens involved? I r confused.

What LackofPanrs said. RFG was great and why not refine that.

I had so much fun with RFG, that I'll reserve my opinion until I actually play it but still.

They developers saw 1.3 million sales for a THQ game(excellent sales for that level) and thought: "they must've hated the unique ultra fun free roam destruction! Lets make a dead space clone!"

Whose TERRIBLE idea was to take away what made the game GREAT?

They LOST my money and many many many fans. I guess they don't like sales they prefer poor reviews and sales around 300 thousand. It WILL bomb and they will be interviewed and asked "what they hell where you thinking?"

Someone please tech their tech away from them and make Blast Corps 2. They obviously don't know what the hell to do with it.

Is it Aliens or is it the Plague? Red Faction 1 fans anyone? Looks interesting to me, going back to the series roots. People writing off a game from the 1st teaser trailer is the definition of short-sighted.

I wonder why Mech suits are showing up in so many games now.

I have a bad feeling about this. I loved the last one but this seems to be leaning towards Horror and no i will not buy it for the mech suit.

Like Mr Squish mentions, in Red Faction 1 there were a few instances when you ran into some pretty freaky stuff underground in those mines. There's even a portion of the game where you end up deep into an Ultor research facility where a mad scientist has been experimenting on people and creating a huge variety of frightening creatures. It was one of the more interesting parts of the game, I think.

So, its possible something down there survived and had a very long time to reproduce and evolve. Getting back to the roots sounds exciting to me.

You must be trolling. This game looks more like the original Red Faction than Guerilla.
