Red 5 Studios announced today a new team-based shooter, FireFall, due to be released some time in 2011. And it has bugs. Nasty, disgusting bugs. I can only assume that they must all die.

The game is being developed by a team made up of designers from the Tribes series and the lead designer of World of Warcraft. Quite appropriately, the game is a mixture of the design philosophies of these two series: take a dude shooting stuff and toss him online shooting at stuff with a ton of other people. While the game is being described as a massively multiplayer game, it will not carry a monthly subscription, instead relying on in-game transactions to keep it going.

There's a hell of a lot going on in that gameplay video: resource gathering, jetpacking, and even some air travel. If all of this is done right, this could be a damn fine 2011 release. I never could get into the Tribes games, but I'm all in for FireFall

Looks interesting. I did laugh when the game hit the brakes to show off the work of the level designers. "Oh, you're enjoying the game you're playing? Well too bad! We've got a long, scenic flight ahead of us, and you WILL look at everything!!!"

Yeah, reminds me of Borderlands taken to the next level. Wasn't really sold until that battle in the city. Consider me interested.

...To bad this won't come out for Mac. But I'll still eagerly await this - It might even convince me to partition my hard drive finally.

It looked really good, and the city fight was badass. What I want to know though, is what if everyone jsut sits around and lets the city be overrun or if they don't defend well enough. What happens then? What's the impact?

Saw one of the demos this afternoon at PAX, and it really has a close resemblence to Borderlands in graphics, creature design, and loot identification coloring departments. I got into a Beta of some sort, so I need to check it out.

Game looks amazing and fun. I really enjoyed the perspective changing. I love games that allow this. I also liked how you could do those jump up in the air and crash down on the floor moves. Game is very intriguing!! I hope it works out. I also hope it comes out on Xbox Live. Id definitely pay for it through Live. Even on the PC I wouldnt mind it either, just would prefer it on Xbox.

Also, if In-Game Transactions equals Micro-Transactions then I dont think I will be going for this.

this could be great, and it will need to be w/ microtransactions.

Holy shit, where the hell did this come from? One second I think I'm going to be watching some shitty trailer for some game I probably don't care about it; and then I see this!

It looks amazing, it really does. It seems to seamlessly blend perspectives and almost genres in a highly polished way. I'm also all for the art style in this game. It kind of reminds me of what a western made anime would be like. Anyways, I just want to try this out and hope it actually turns out to be a good game and not a pile of crap.

That was pretty cool, I especially liked seeing the landscape embroiled in conflict (well, who didn't?) but I'll have to see how massively multiplayer it is and how much the ingame transactions will affect the game before I become too interested.

And they didn't bother to add zombies. I'm getting tired of 'em

Hell yeah man. I'm pretty sure almost everyone's had enough of zombies already.

But killing bugs, starship troopers, anyone?
