The only thing I remember about Doom is that the Marines are camp as tits.
They sounded like a bunch of kids having a sleep-over and trying to scare each other witless, with The Rock being a dad who tells everyone to shut the hell up because he's got work in the morning.

Universal passed on a Guillermo Del Torro-helmed Mountains of Madness for THIS? The most frustrating thing about the last Doom movie (besides the worst on-screen depiction of Marines ever) was the fact that all the production design already existed from Doom 3... crap, you could have bundled the cutscenes together and walked away with something better.
I've said it before. As soon as you let go of Doom being a videogame movie, it becomes a very enjoyable sci fi action film.

I remember a movie named "Doom", but I don't think it was related to the games. It starred The Rock and seemed to have nothing to do with demons or much else from the Doom games.
The Doom movie and the first Mortal Kombat movie are the two best video game movie adaptations ever made. Fact.

Seriously, I mean I've been trying not to be the guy-who-watches-indie-films-while-bashing-hollywood guy for many years now but they are beating that reboot/sequel/remake/adaption drum with fucking INTENSITY recently. It's fucking painful to watch.
That said, I still argue when an original flick does come out of Hollywood it's usually pretty damn ace. I still rather enjoy Hollywood but damn, that little corner of the industry that I like seems to be getting smaller and smaller. At least that's where most of the Academy Award winners are.

i'm not a big doom fan (preferred duke nukem, back in the day) but i liked the movie, it was simple mindless fun. If they have that first-person segment again they need to use more guns, not just a generic movie assault rifle and a chainsaw.

If they do end up making a new Doom movie they had better do it right. The monsters are demons from Hell, not genetic freaks.

If they didn't take this seriously but had fun with it (and didn't endlessly recycle scenes like Mega Shark... honestly, that was the only reason that movie sucked) it could indeed be really awesome. Never seen the first Doom though.

Doom was just horrible. Not even fun in the whole "it's so bad it's good" category, just shit. Thank god the Silent Hill movie showed us that videogame to movie can work.
Seriously, just set it in Hell.

The IP does lend itself well to an action/horror movie setting, especially if they focus on the horror aspect.
Forget the games. Make a movie adaptation of the comic. YOU ARE HUGE! THAT MEANS YOU HAVE HUGE GUTS! RIP AND TEAR!
Also, why not make the whole movie in first person perspective? Hell, id watch that. Maybe all the "3D coming at yaaa" bullshit would actually have an effect on me that way.

I liked the Doom movie alright at the time but I know it is bad at the same time.
Part of the reason it is bad is because it was obviously not given much of a budget. Another reason is because they made the demons really lame and not from Hell. Other than that, it was not awfully bad for its genre and I wouldn't mind seeing another one.

They need to make it a silent film, no talking, the only sounds should be bullets flying, demons screaming, and the sound of flesh being ripped apart by a chainsaw. Oh, and gibs, lots of gibs. Get the dud that made the last Rambo movie to direct the gory scenes.
This will be a hoot with some beer on a Saturday night with friends on Netflix.

Now that I'm sitting here thinking about it I -MAYBE- wouldn't mind seeing a Doom movie told from a COMPLETELY 1st person perspective, with the camera basically being the main character and thus making us sort of an actual character in the movie (which could work well if they insist on 3D).. Though I also have to say I don't think we could expect much from that idea either..

I am excited by this news, because I really didn't like the Doom movie. The plot had nothing to do with Doom, and the only thing that was similar was the Mars setting and they took all the designs from the Doom 3 game. Doom is about DEMONS. Coming out of a HELL PORTAL. It has the potential to be amazing!! Dark and gritty, not all lit up by blue fluorescent lights and some cheesey substitute plot about chromosomes and DNA that doesn't need to exist. It doesn't have to be clever, it just has to be the god-damn story from the actual games!
