The arrival of the Aliens vs. Predator demo this week did not bring much conversation concerning the game's quality. Unfortunately, rather than talk about the game itself, most people were talking about what a load of crap the demo was. Terrible matchmaking was the order of the day, with people taking at least ten minutes to get into a game.
Rebellion, thank f*ck, has apologized, but not without squeezing in a few words about how brilliant AvP is.
"Unprecedented demand for Aliens vs. Predator following the release of the cross-platform demo yesterday morning brought to light matchmaking issues on the PC platform resulting in players having to wait to join games, or even not find games at all," explains the studio. "We’re really sorry that this issue tainted a day in which we saw many people get hands on with AvP for the first time and we’re hugely gratified by the positive feedback to the game."
Rebellion adds that a small patch has fixed the problem on the PC version, so nobody should have any issues. Not sure where this "unprecedented demand" is coming from though, considering on the Xbox 360, I kept getting into one-on-one matches because nobody was playing the thing.
Rebellion apologizes for AvP demo troubles [VG247]
“Unprecedented demand for Aliens vs. Predator following the release of the cross-platform demo yesterday morning brought to light matchmaking issues on the PC platform resulting in players having to wait to join games, or even not find games at all.
We’re pleased to say later in the day the issue was corrected and a small patch to the PC executable next time you launch it from Steam will have you finding and playing games using Quick Match as it was intended.
While this issue did not affect the Xbox 360, we are, with SEGA’s assistance investigating reports of a similar nature on the PlayStation 3 and working flat out on a solution.
The full game features the ability to browse for and create games but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday’s issues for many.

This. Every time I'm close to winning the match, the fucking pussy runs off and ends the game.
Definitely passing on this game. So glad they re-released the original for $5 on Steam. At least that game actually works how its supposed to.
On the downside however, it's still disorienting to play as an alien as it was in the old games.
But really, it wasn't that good. I don't feel motivated to play it again.
That's honestly why I don't do much online gaming. Far too many sore losers that quit on you when you're about to beat them.
If I ever play with someone, I'll play till the game is done, even if I lose. Unless it's just far too unbalanced/glitchy in terms of teams. If it's one on one however, I'll stick to it.
Also, the aliens tails are incredibly well animated. The serpentine motion is genuinely beautiful.
I'm pretty good with the Alien now, I can stalk and move without being seen most of the time, and it's so much damn fun. To anybody finding the alien hard, remember to use the aliens jump ability to pounce to the location you are pointing at; I don't use the auto-transition, I just jump from wall to wall.
They should add a buffer for people using the execution kills so they can turn around before it devolves in to the conga-line of death. I also wouldn't mind having the ability to see the world as the humans do as an Alien, it's impossible to tell how dark the room actually is with your enhanced vision and knowing where dark corners are can save your life. I just try to remember place from playing as a Marine
question though for people who play as predator: does he not have a roar button? i couldnt find it at all, though i did find the incredibly badass alien hiss button
Fucking sucks T____T
I do want this game to do well though, at least in sales, considering that Gearbox's Colonial Marines future may depend on AvP's performance.
But I'm glad they are fixing the issues for those people having problems trying to download or play the game.
"I don't have time for that. Luckily, BC2 has kept me occupied. "
I wish I saw what you're seeing in BC2. I played it twice, uninstalled it, and got my refund back for my preorder. I felt that game was absolutely awful.
@runtheplacered
there's no way in hell of telling a full game will be shit by playing a demo/beta/throwing a boomerang twice.
Get friends together, play in squad. Awesomeness ensues. BFBC2 > MW2. If you play by yourself your experience potential will be halved.

To be honest, when I first played the demo, it was too laggy and just not fun. After playing through some of these lag-fest I managed to connect to a American server. With a good ping this game became phenomenal. Completely opposite of my first impression. When the game is playable it is nothing less than amazing. I can't count the amount of 'holy shit' moments I've had so far due to this extraordinary (everything is destroyable) game engine. I can't say that for many games I've played of the same genre. Anyway, I hope the beta really didn't put you off to the point you wont give it another chance. I can honestly say it is my favorite of the series and I've played them all with the exception of the first BC.
I didn't say that it was good, I just said that it was keeping me occupied. It is, however, good. That's not to say that I don't have any problems with it. All weapons seem to be way underpowered and not as accurate at close range as they should be under full automatic fire. The Medic's LMGs are especially useless, which is ridiculous considering they should be some of the most powerful weapons in the game. Not only do they spray everywhere, but they are weak as hell. I just started using the the pistols until I got a shotgun. Also, it doesn't run very well. I guess it hangs around 30 fps usually, but my dual core is almost 1GHz faster than the recommended, so I think it should run a little better. Other than that, I like it. Teamwork is incredibly important because of how much it takes to kill an enemy, and you can pull off some surprisingly long range kills with the assault rifles, which I like. The weapon set customization is pretty good too, allowing for a variety of strategies, especially with recon and engineer.
How did you cancel the preorder? I thought that wasn't allowed.
Even if the demo was very crappy I found the game excelent! and playing as an alien is adictive. Once you have mastered the movement a little bit the whole experience is totally intuitive. The only time me and a friend managed to get into a game togueter we worked as team and it was TO MUCH FUN, that's way the game should be played and I can't wait for the full game and team game modes.
My only problem are the Insta-kills, which are so easily executables in the middle of a hand-to-hand battle, but they works perfectly for stealth.
Shall I check spelling a little bit before posting.
Because Sir Jesus Head wants you to suck cock and die. Also, I hate FPS's.
For me the Medics LMG is by far the best weapon in the game, I probably don't have to tell you this but short controlled burst are what is required to make the most of this weapon, and with it's 200 round clip you should be able to get about ten kills from it at medium range without having to reload.
As for AvP, I'd say playing as the marine makes it feel more like an aliens game(shit your pants scary), playing as the xenomorph is like a rollercoaster ride through an intestinal tract with the odd bit of run as far as you can at the dude with the pulse rifle thrown in as a mini-game. The Predator species(or whatever you'r supposed to call them) I have no idea, the fine folk of xboxlive keep snafu'ing them before i have a chance.
I think the sluggish marine aim is supposed to be cinematic maybe, it definitely feels deliberate given the way the other races control.
Predator impaling ftw!
i couldn't play!!!
i got desperate so i turned off my ps3... maybe i'll find someone later.
my biggest problem with the game is how easy it is to mop up. someone gets locked into an animation killing someone else and then another person gets behind them and does it to them and so on and so forth. or youre locked in the animation and some marine comes in and mows you both down before you actually kill your victim. im attributing these problems with the game type and i hope that in the other multiplayer modes this kind of clean up isnt as big of a problem
But really want this game to be good...hope they listen to the feedback.
plus lols at the conga line of death!!!
I was the predator but I seemed to be running around press E more than anything else and man did I feel slow against humans AND aliens I was like a sloth. Singler player better do a good job or else this is off my list from what I'ev played so far.
