Here we have a little preview of Guitar Hero World Tour's new drums. Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, The Police drummer Stewart Copeland and former drummer of Blink-182, Travis Barker, all give the new drums a test drive. We don't actually see the drums being used with the game, just the rock stars beating on the drums and telling us their impressions of it.
Not much is really detailed that we don't already know. The drums are pressure-sensitive and wireless, and the cymbal pads look like they can be easily broken.
With the recent revelation of the possible price point for World Tour, I'm not so sure about the game anymore. The only thing that World Tour has going for it that really separates it from the competition is the music creation mode. Activision really needs to show off how the music creation for the game is going to work, as I believe that is going to be the biggest selling point for Guitar Hero World Tour. What do you think?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

With all of Rock Band's downloadable tracks, this game isn't worth it. The music creation looks tough and will rarely be used. As long as I can still use my GHIII controller with Rock Band, that's the game for me.
Dammit. I know all the peripherals will be better than Rock Bands because they've actually SEEN what they have to do better. Rock Band is just a far more superior game with the incredible downloadable tracks and just a great interface that makes everything feel really seamless.
There is no way this can beat rockband with RB's selection of music at RB's price point for each track. I have seen many at my work return GH3 sheerly for the price of the downloadable tracks and track selection and then turn around and get rockband. While i feel GH's drumset is better the songs and song quality is what makes the games and that is something GH can't beat. RB is designed to be a platform GH is designed to cash in on you every year.
I think everyone is jumping to conclusions. Just wait until the game is out before you say 'FUCK OFF Guitar Hero!". I have always preferred the guitar parts in GH than RB so if they at least keep that difficulty up, and add some interesting things to drumming and singing then I think it may be wroth it. I will get this regardless just for the guitar note charts, but if the drums are good then we'll see.
For me, RB has been about people coming together and having fun just jamming, but the guitar notes were much more fun on GH3. From what I've heard, for RB they aimed to make the notes feel more "real" than GH3. But if I wanted more realism I'd play a real guitar.
As for GH3, it's still a blast for me to play. With World Tour, I think it will be much more fun all around if they can make the other instruments as good as the guitar. And they seem to be improving on a lot of things. I hope the multiplayer is as good, or better than RB. And that the single player is still enjoyable.
However, they do need a good price point, and they should definatly have much more DLC for this installment
So yeah, GH3 = Better Solo play, RB = Better multiplayer play.
@emotoaster theres a fine line between difficulty and artifically bumping up difficulty by mapping more than one instrument on the guitar track like Neversoft did with GH3 see this comparison video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yFRA0d3tZY4) and carefully look at the different guitar mappings.
I used to think that these music games weren't too bad but now they're just getting annoying. You might aswell just start playing the guitar/drums/etc.
Emotoaster has said to wait. I'm officially on the fuck GH bandwagon.
I want so much to like this game because I think it has potential, but I'm worried. They're pushing the game with rockstars, and they won't show us any gameplay yet. Same thing with GH Aerosmith (except I'm not trying at all to like that.) I like the look of the drums, but I doubt they're really sturdy. Ugh. Looks like I'll wait to play the drums beforehand.
Also, Its really a detriment to my obsession with Rock Band when I can identify the drum part that you hear Chad Smith play as the lead in to "Vasoline" by STP.
@flamesofchaos I understand they did that in 3 and yeah to certain people that is bullshit. But for me if it adds to my enjoyment of the game/series then doing it here and there isn't a bad thing. To they will only really cross the line when they start using tracks with no guitar, start making shit up entirely. That is when even I will throw a shit storm.
@Cobra I have a feeling that they are now trying to make GH a bi-annual series once Activision took over well the last two years they pushed 3 GH games on us, last year it was GH2 360 edition, GH:Rock the 80's and GH:3. This year its GH:Aerosmith, GH: On Tour and GH:World Tour. I wonder how fast Activision will milk the cow until its all powdered milk.
I've never actually bought a guitar hero game before, but god damn am I picking this up the day it comes out! It's nice that it is actually sorta gonna be like playing the real drums, unlike the guitar part.
I prefer realistic note tracks to inflated difficulty methods in GH series. I'm thinking I'll just wait for EA/Harmonix to come out with Rock Band 2 and their even better drum set and other peripherals. I play these to have fun, not to be shown that I don't have the time to get good enough to play tracks on advanced.
Chad Smith is pure sweetness. As for GH:WT, I don't know. Activision seems to be reacting more than proacting, and that could cause a ton of problems in the future.
I'm sure they'll still manage to cram in those totally out of place 'boss' fights, and random notes that aren't actually in the song. Finally, you can play phantom frets of your favourite songs - with friends! :D
Hm. So I'm guessing this means a Chili Peppers, Police, and Blink 182 song in the game. Plus Travis being a drummer to face off against.
...as much as I'm a bit iffy on the direction Guitar Hero is going, it's still a solid title to play for me. At most I'll probably pick up the guitar bundle, depending on how the setlist looks.
If the whole bundle really costs $190, I won’t be picking it up, and frankly, if the guitar parts are as ridiculously stupid as they were in GH III, then screw it.
I feel that my living room is lacking in plastic instruments to stand by the one real guitar that I have. I might be against a one console future, but I'm totally for a one peripheral platform.
SRSLY tho-, Harmonix, Red Octane, Konami, ANYONE. Strike up a deal with BC Rich guitars. I Crave a warlock controller.
Actually the drum part he was playing was from 'Give It Away' by his own band, the chili peppers. But, now that you mention it, it does sound like Vasoline.
@Batty - Yeah, they're going to be substandard. How else are they going to make money? The one thing that isn't really up for debate is the track list. Definite mediocrity, given the GHIII track list, and Activision's most questionable decision to give Aerosmith their own game. At least they've got a lockdown on the 40-something mullet crowd.
The drum set is going to be complicated enough to fail often. The addition of pressure sensitive drum pads is just another point of failure. You're matching a note on screen, not playing the drums, so all you need is on or off, not four shades of gray. I also know that those cymbals are going to snap off. Oh wait, you mean Chad Smith played it for ten minutes and it didn't break? That means it'll certainly take the ham-fisted wailings of over-eager gamers for hours and hours and hours on end. The specialization of the cymbals is probably going to bite them in the ass. They have two pads that they can only use for cymbals and three pads they can only use for drums, instead of four pads that can change roles in the middle of the song. I think this illustrates even further that Activision/neversoft have no idea what they're doing unless they're copying Harmonix.
How many POSITIVE things has Activision/Neversoft added to the Guitar Hero franchise?
Wow, vanilla gorilla, thanks for pointing out that my distaste with activision isn't related to the cheezy graphical "update" GHIII got, or the tacked-on, idiotic boss battles, or the less-than-good tracklist, but rather my own inferior skills. From now on, you should write all my comments. You're amazing.
Being a RB fanboy makes far more sense than defending Activi$ion while they slaughter the most successful music game franchise in history.

Wait, what was this video about? I was too busy playing Rock Band.
This looks very interesting as well, but what worries me is the direction GH has taken with GH3.
The music was pretty lame if you ask me, the style seemed to be getting worse, and the DLC was absolutely horrid.
Rock Band on the other hand nails all three of those things and will only do better this year with Rock Band 2.
I will pay attention to GH:WT, but be very, very picky about what they do.

The song is "Dammit" by Blink 182.

If World Tour is released here in Australia before Rock Band I'm sold. I'm sure I'll be paying about $500 AUD for either but oh well.
Until then I'll keep rocking my Rock Band's fake set.

Goes to show the redundancy of Rock and Roll.
And plus, it goes against the grain of Guitarhero3istoodifficultwhinetoid, which is also refreshing.

By my count, none.
They show a lot of banging on the skins, but on the real ones, not the plastic ones.
