Real men have an actual box for their Netflix PS3 disc photo

This has to be the collector in me saying this, but whenever I or someone I know misplaces a game box (usually the latter), forcing me to forever hold onto a loose disc, it drives me up the walls.

Not to the point where I go out and specifically buy a green- or white-colored case, yet it's still annoying at any rate. The Netflix streaming Blu-ray disc falls somewhere into this scenario, and since they will remain a requirement for some time, Kotaku reader Nulion has come up with a solution.

Agreeing that paper is no way to contain the raw power of streaming movies, Nulion whipped up faux cover art intended for PlayStation 3 cases. Hell, it even comes complete with an ESRB rating. It's so legit, it doesn't even make any sense!

And if you find yourself with the itch to print out more custom videogame slip covers, The Cover Project comes highly recommended as a swanky resource for that sort of thing. Do it, assuming your printer can handle the job.

The way my printer spits out images I'll have the FBI knocking on my door for pirated-looking Netflix box art.

Oh now that's awesome. They should've sent these out with the original disc. Lazy bastards.

@Xzyliac - It's not a matter of them being lazy. It's a matter of them making it cheap to ship.

How much would that have cost? Honestly? Shipping would've been the same, cases are probably a cent a pop, inserts for the cases might be five cents. So six cents each plus whatever shipping they already pay. Big whoop. Netflix is barebones enough that I'm sure they'd have the cash to spare.

I'm not upset over it. I just think it's cheap and lazy when you're asking people to hold on to the disc for as long as they want to use Netflix since Sony has already said they're in no rush to integrate it into the PS3.

Is the disc an actual blu ray disc, or just a DVD? If the latter I suggest just copying it and using the backup.

I prefer the one that Shenske made... but to each his own.

I don't know about the US but over here they sell PSN cards in blu-ray cases. Don't ask, I don't know why. That would be perfect for things like these.

That was one of the cool things about working at a game store -- whenever I lost a case I could grab a nice used copy from the store and replace that case with one of the hundred thousand crappy DVD cases corporate supplied us with.

@Xzyliac
shipping a dvd case even in bulk rate as priority mail is a couple of bucks a pop whereas just the dvd is bulk business rate which is slightly cheaper than a letter- so it would prolly be something like 4 top 5 times the cost to ship it in a case

@Takeshi
they don't see the psn cards in cases here, at least I have never seen one- they are usually either in cardboard backings or those evil sealed plastic packages

I have purchased Cases and Manuals on eBay if they were lost or a used title that I got really cheap. However it does drive me up the walls.

If I ever lose a case or buy a used game that comes in a DVD case, I always have to order the correct color case and print out the box art for myself. It just looks dumb on my shelf if I don't! OCD OCD OCD OCD

I never lose my cases. If I keep a game in my system, the case is always 5 inches away. I make sure that I put everything back and keep everything in order. It's the only way to avert losing stuff.

Since I believe the rental movies ship in the same paper sleeves I'm assuming that its actually cheaper to ship it this way rather then having/buying a bunch of cases and inserts to put them in. My understanding is that they use a bulk shipping model in the same way I believe they use a bulk model for their packaging. You actually stated it best yourself when you said "Netflix is barebones".

While it might be cheap in our eyes but they have a bottom line to watch either way. They're supplying the disk in order to provide a sincere gesture to those people who have a Netflix subscription and happen to have a PS3, While Sony, as per your statement, isnt in a rush to supply the firmware update to allow the service to stream the same way Xbox users have it. The disk, and the programming to make it work, is probably coming out of their pockets and not Sony's.

They could have just told every one who wanted one to make a one time payment for the disks considering the deal with Sony probably isn't netting them any money yet. In otherwords: Take it and like it, its free.

Are there people out there who never kicked the habit of tossing out the whole box from the days of cardboard cases? I want to kick every single one of them in the junk.

@DrXym

It is a Blu Ray. It uses the BD-Live functionality to connect to the Netflix servers.
