On the eve of the release of
God of War II, one of the recent worst kept secrets in gaming has been confirmed. A
God of War game is coming to the PSP and it's being developed by (you guessed it) Ready At Dawn (best known for
Daxter, because it's the only game the team's ever made).
While too much info hasn't been revealed,
Matt Leone over at 1up.com was able to gather a few things from Cory Barlog during this evening's
God of War II launch event in at the Metreon in San Francisco.
Fortunately, the game will not be a port, but its story will tie in with the over arc of what is intended to be a console trilogy. Not surprisingly, the game is intended to be epic, just like its bigger console brethren. While recognizable areas will be visited, the entire game will be built from the ground up and all of the levels will be built from the ground up.
Amusingly, it seems the developers have no idea how they're going to pull of Kratos' roll technique on the PSP; the lack of a second analog stick seems to be posing a challenge for the team.
More info (but no screens, unfortunately) found over at
Leone's blog.
For some reason I just can't convince myself that I'll care about God of War. I'm sure I'd like the game just fine. But from just watching the ton of content I've seen on both PS2 games, I feel like I would quickly lose interest in it and never finish the game. Has anyone experienced this?
Sorry, it does makes you a bad person.
Seriously, give the first one a rent sometime. It's one of the best action games in years, and I was sucked in the whole way through.
@ piestuff:
The two GTA games didn't do that for the PSP. What's going to make it fly off the shelves is a significant price reduction for both the system and the games.
damn i hated that part i stoped there :(
As for the spinning blades -- worst ever. Funny, because that's pretty far into the game. I'm surprised you stopped.
I'm not exactly sure what doesn't appeal to me. I've just never had the urge to play it. I just kind of lump it with the Prince of Persia and Ninja Gaiden games which I've also never had a desire to play.
I picked up a copy of Sands of Time and Ninja Gaiden Black for $20 the other day. I'm going to try them out on 360 BC, and if I like them enough I'll give God of War a shot... hooking up the PS2 just seems like such a daunting task.
I didn't think the blade WERE *THAT* bad to be honest. Yeah they were hard, but this was Hades you were trying to escape. I thought the setting justified the difficulty.
No you're not alone, felt the same way about Devil May Cry. Rented it, loved it during that time but could never bring myself to purchase it afterwards even now when it's worth about £5.
My reluctance became something of an in joke with my friends. They'd try and get me to buy it any time we were in the shop.
I guess you could call it the "I know it's awesome buuuut...." syndrome.
you mean the blade where you timed to jump across the platforms? You said before hades so I assume you mean that. or do you mean the big cylinder blade towers IN hades?
little confused about the problem.
I am torn...anyone know of a place/way to rent a psp?
I like boobs and dismemberments as much as the next guy, but I can only push the same three buttons for a few hours before my ADD kicks in.
@topcow : Yes it was, but it was still a different kind for it's time. The reason the new GOW2 didn't get a perfect was because some sites stated the same thing : Deep down, it's still a furious button mashing experince.
Topcow, I can see that..but it is just so fun! button mashing doesnt have to be a bad thing.
is stamped 9 right out of the gate.
This to me just proves Rev's point of the 1-10 scale being horribly broken. You can't tell me that half-way through GoW (and I'm sure this holds true for the sequel, albeit I'm only a few hours in), it begins to feel just a bit like work.
Clock-in, button mash, clock-out
Is the production value there? Yes
Is the polish there? Yes
Is it fun? Yes
Is there deep gameplay here? ...
Compare it to RE4 and Gears and then honestly tell me that GoW offers the same great experience, and deserves the same praise.
I have heard Gears of War is fun but VERY shallow. This is just what I heard since I have never played it (not saying I don't want to, just don't have the ability to). But what was said was that the game is not deep, very shallow, it just have a VERY nicely done presentation and graphics to make up for its short comings as a video game.
And I think GoW has some deep aspects, not the deepest though with the addition of moves as you upgrade your weapon(s), along with specials and more abilities. Addition of killing moves and choice of weather you want to fight a gorgon/minotaur till they die or use the "O" finishing move to get more magic/health respectively.
(sorry, Im bored, don't mind me Blindside.)
I know I should of brought another one >_<
BlindsideDork, the platforms with spining blades on them and they would knock you off if you didn't jump to the next platform.
I remember reading that David Jaffe even said he hated that part too.
the puzzles help brake up the action
