Ready 2 Rumble Revolution announced for Wii photo

We've been hearing rumors of a new Ready 2 Rumble game lately, including an Amazon.com leak this morning. Now Atari has made it official with the announcement of Ready 2 Rumbe Revolution for the Wii.

The series is making its debut on the Wii, now armed with motion controls. The Nunchuck acts as one glove, and the Wii Remote acts as the other.

The game will feature 20 boxers, each based on celebrities from the worlds of sports, music and movies. Celebrities enter the ring as larger-than-life "Rumble-ized" versions of themselves. Announcer Michael Buffer is signed on to let us know that we're "ready to rumble." A new Champonship Mode lets players create their own boxer and then bring them up through the ranks, using minigames to hone thier skills.

The game is set for launch in Spring of 2009.

Syphon Cruel? Really?

Quite enjoyed this game, even on the PS1.

I see Simon Cowell and Shaun White parody with a disturbing lack of Afro Thunder in those screens.

I don't see what was wrong with their original cast of characters. Each had some personality and were over-the-top on their own. I'd go back to play some R2RR2, but sadly that wasn't aged well at all.

Isn't AKI suppose to have their hands on this? Maybe there's hope for it.

I'm hoping they also support classic controller support.

The classic characters probably aren't in it since Midway, or whoever owns Midway now, still owns the rights to those characters. Midway doesn't have anything to do with this one, hence why their characters aren't in it.

Anyway, with AKI (now known as syn Sophia) it just might be a great game.

I used to like these games, but this one looks like trash. All "Celebrity" cast? I think I'll pass.

Wait, wait, wait. AKI are doing this? As in the WWF No Mercy developers AKI? Well my interest has just peaked. A brief conversation in IRC a mere hour or two ago reminded me how awesome N64 wrestling games were. If AKI are doing this then consider me excited.

And about time too.

Hold up! Celebrity characters?? I don't like that much at all.

I too will miss the original cast, but who knows, with Midway now sold for buttons, Atari could easily snap up original characters rights for next to nothing, and maybe release them as DLC (I know how that sounds, but I'd rather get original characters than not, but that will be tricky with no hard drive).

Things are looking up for Wii again.

Celebs spells can't be asked to develop characters. No wonder Atari are cursed.

eh...not so interested in Celebs. Needs Moar Afro Thunder.

and since it's not Midway, probably a pass even if Aki's developing it.
