Reach revealed: Spartans, some talk, and an elite photo

The Halo: Reach reveal at the Spike Video Game Awards show wasn’t what we expected it to be -- instead of revealing class-based action or new weaponry, it flexed a bit of narrative strength. In the initial seconds, a few UNSC Spartans talk bluntly about the Spartan MIA status. Then, we see some sort of head Spartan prepping a new recruit for some sort of conflict before taking to the skies in a Pelican.

The end of the trailer brings a shot of an elite with sword in hand.

Want to see some screens without Tom Morello’s MS Paint work all over it? Take a gander at the gallery. While we can’t be certain as to what Reach is, we can at least say that it’s looking good.

[Update: Holy timeline (and eyesight), Batman! I forgot the face of my father, and apparently, what a Spartan looks like. These are indeed Spartans, not ODSTs. And because of the game's place in the Halo timeline, the group was certainly not talking about Master Chief's most recent issues.]

I'm honestly genuinely interested in the game. This is all in-game, right? Because if so, it looks fantastic. Plus faces that don't look like printed pictures of faces wrapped around a head.
And did anyone notice the Spartan with the skull face on his EVA visor? I almost feels like I'm seeing sci-fi MW2.

The trailer was very meh for me, but I bet that the halo fans are probably orgasming because of it.

Wait, is Reach a prequel to Halo 1?

So let me guess.... Halo reach is a prequel of the sequel of a prequel?

Did a small update, guys. I called the Spartans ODSTs and forgot the timeline. Check it out.

Sweet. Maybe this will pique my interest more than ODST did.

It's placed on the titular planet, Reach. Basically, the UNSC's fortress world and primary military base and training ground of the Spartans. The planet would soon be doomed to be orbitally bombarded and desolated from orbit after it's orbital defenses got knocked out.

@brainderailment
I'm gonna assume your question is serious and tell you it takes place on a planet called Reach.

Just saw the trailer. My hopes are so high for this game I think I'm gonna go insane. And I'm not a big hype person at all. Or a big Halo person for that matter.

Unimpressed with it. Didn't tell me squat about the gameplay, don't care about the storyline in comparison to the other games I didn't play, and the graphics just don't grab me.

I'm really hoping this is more like Mass Effect than the other Halo games.

What I did notice was the placement of the premiere video right before the GotY award. Very well played Microsoft, getting your recognition right alongside Uncharted 2. Very well played indeed.

@Los255, Reach happened right before the first Halo. The Pillar of Autumn was running away from Reach in the first game, and if you read the book "The Fall of Reach", it describes everything wonderfully.

Although i do enjoy the franchise as a whole i think im going to pass on this one, it seems bungie will never have an in game engine with real-time interactive environments, i dislike shooting a wall or a brute only to have a little black spot on the wall or a blood stain on the floor while the brute seems to be completely unharmed on the floor, personally that really takes me out of the experience and is just plain lazy game development

Man, I can't wait to play as this loner badass who has to learn the value of teamwork.

I just want them to do Master Chief and the Spartan II's training. Come on who doesn't want to play as kids beating the crap other their officers? If this game is anything the book was, it will be squad based.
